Djibouti at the 1984 Summer Olympics

Djibouti competed in the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California, United States. These were July 28 to August 12.[1] This was the first Olympic Games Dijibouti participated in. Dijibouti sent three athletes to Los Angles. All three competed in marathon events. The three athletes were; Djama Robleh, Ahmed Salah, and Omar Abdillahi Charmarke. None of them won a medal. [2]

All three of the athletes from Dijibouti competed in the men's marathon. The marathon started at Santa Monica College and finished at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

Djama Robleh was the flag bearer for Djibouti.[3] He finished in eighth place. His time was two hours, eleven minutes, and thirty-nine seconds.[4]

When Ahmed Salah competed this was only his sixth marathon. He finished in twentieth place.[5][2][6] Salah won a bronze medal in the 1988 Olympics. He is the only person from Dijibouti to win an olympic medal.[3]

Omar Abdillahi Charmarke finished thirty-second. He finished the marathon in two hours, nineteen minutes, and eleven seconds.[7]
