Elisa Toffoli (born December 19, 1977), also known as Elisa, is an Italian singer and songwriter. In Europe she is known for her song "Come Speak to Me".

Elisa has let out nine studio albums, five compilation albums, two live albums, eight video albums, and 51 singles. Elisa has sold over 5.5 million copies in Italy.[3] Elisa's songs have been given many awards.[3]

She won six awards at the Sanremo Music Festival in 2001.

Early life

Elisa Toffoli was born on December 19, 1977 in Trieste. She grew up in Monfalcone. Elisa was inspired by Björk, PJ Harvey, Tori Amos, Aretha Franklin and Ella Fitzgerald.[4] Elisa began writing songs at the age of eleven.

Career

When Elisa was 16, she was signed by Caterina Caselli to Sugar Music. Elisa let out her single "Sleeping in Your Hand" in 1997. Her first song in Italian, "Tramonti a nord est" won her many awards at the Sanremo Festival in 2001.

In 2003, Elisa let out another album called "Lotus". Elisa also let out "Pearl Days" in 2004.

In 2006, Elisa let out "Soundtrack '96-'06". It is a collection.

2012-2016: L'anima vola, On and new projects

In 2012, Elisa's song, "Love Is Requited", won a Nastro d'Argento for Best Original Song.[5]

Elisa let out her first fully Italian album, "L'anima vola", on October 15, 2013. It was given double platinum.[6]

In 2015, she served as a coach on "Amici di Maria De Filippi".[7]

On January 15, 2016, she let out "No Hero". The album was at number one on the FIMI Albums Chart. Between November and December 2016, Elisa began touring in Italy, the United Kingdom and Ireland.[8][9]

2017–2019: Label change, Diari aperti and The Lion King

In 2017, Elisa ended her deal with Sugar Music and signed with Universal Music Group under Island Records.[10] Elisa celebrated twenty years of her career with the Together Here We Are event at the Verona Arena.[11]

On September 22, 2017, "Ogni istante" was let out.[12] The money from the song were given to places in Italy that were hurt by the earthquakes in 2016 and 2017

On October 26, 2018, Elisa let out another studio album called Diari aperti using Universal Music Group.[13] Diari aperti was at number two on the Italian Albums Chart.[13] The album's lead single was at number four on the FIMI Italian Chart.[14] The lead single was at number one on the Italian Airplay Chart for nine weeks.[14] In September 17, 2019, she made the fifth single "Tua per sempre".[15]

In 2019, Elisa was chosen by Walt Disney Animation Studios to be the Italian voice of Nala in the movie The Lion King.[16]

2020–present: Ritorno al futuro/Back to the Future, Sanremo Festival and collaborations

On March 6, 2020, Marracash let out a new single called "Neon – Le ali" with Elisa.[17] It was at number five on the Italian Singles Chart.[17] On November 20, 2020, Luciano Ligabue made a song with Elisa called "Volente o nolente".[18] In December 2021, Elisa sang the song "Alice!".[19][20] In 2021, Elisa said on social networks that she was working on her next studio album.

On November 24, 2021, the single "Seta" was let out for Elisa's next album, Ritorno al futuro/Back to the Future. The album was let out on February 18, 2022.[21] "Ritorno al futuro/Back to the Future" was number one album on the Italian Albums Chart.[21] On May 6, 2022, Elisa let out "Litoranea".[22]

From June 18, 2022 to September 24, 2022, Elisa was in the Back to the Future Live Tour in Italy.[23] On December 16, 2022, "Come te nessuno mai" was let out.

In 2022, Elisa wrote a songs for the Italian singer Elodie called "Bagno a mezzanotte".[24]

In 2023, Elisa was at the 2023 Sanremo Music Festival. She sang with Giorgia. They sang Elisa's song "Luce (Tramonti a nord est)" and Giorgia's song "Di sole e d'azzurro".
