Fleming County, Kentucky
Fleming County is a county located in the state of Kentucky. As of the 2020 census, the population was 15,082.[1] Its county seat is Flemingsburg.[2] The county was formed in 1798 and named for Colonel John Fleming, an Indian-fighter and early settler.[3][4] It's a prohibition or dry county, which means drinks with alcohol are not sold there. In 1998, the Kentucky General Assembly designated Fleming County as the Covered Bridge Capital of Kentucky.[5]

History
changeFleming County was established in 1798 from land given by Mason County, Kentucky.[6] The first courthouse, possibly built of logs, was replaced in 1830 and again in 1952.[7]

changeAccording to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 351 square miles (910 km2), of which 349 square miles (900 km2) is land and 2.8 square miles (7.3 km2) (0.8%) is water.[8]

As of the census of 2020, there were 15,082 people living in the county. The population density was 43 per square mile (17/km2). There were 5,936 housing units at an average density of 17 per square mile (6.6/km2). The racial makeup of the county was 95.4% White, 1.0% Black or African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.1% Asian, 0.9% from other races, and 2.5% from two or more races. 1.4% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 5,936 households out of which 32.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.6% were married couples living together, 7.5% were unmarried couples living together, 23.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 17.2% had a male householder with no wife present. 26.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.54.
In the county, the population was spread out with 24.0% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 22.3% from 25 to 44, 27.3% from 45 to 64, and 18.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41.5 years. For every 100 males there were 101.6 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 102.8 females.[13]
In 2021, the median income for a household in the county was $48,315, and the median income for a family was $60,464.[14] The per capita income for the county was $24,506.[15] About 11.1% of families and 15.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 20.2% of those under age 18 and 13.6% of those age 65 or over.[16][17]
