Florac
Florac is a former French commune, a subprefecture of the Lozère department, in the Occitanie region. It is also the capital of the arrondissement of Florac. On 1 January 2016, it was merged into the new commune of Florac Trois Rivières.[1]

The inhabitants of this city are known, in French, as Floracois (women: Floracoises).[2]
Geography
changeFlorac is in the valley of the Tarnon river, a small river that flows through the Lozère department before joining the Tarn river. The commune is found at the start of the Gorges du Tarn (a canyon formed by the Tarn river).
The city and the Tarnon valley are within the Cévennes National Park but they are not part of the park.
The commune of Florac has an area of 29.89 km2 (11.54 sq mi) and its average altitude is 542 m (1,778 ft); at the city hall, the altitude is 560 m (1,840 ft).[3]
The commune is surrounded by the communes Quézac, Bédouès, La Salle-Prunet, Saint-Laurent-de-Trèves, Vebron and Montbrun.
The climate in Prades in the Köppen climate classification is Cfb - Oceanic climate with template summers.

changeWith a population of 1,958,[4] its population density is of 66 inhabitants/km2.
Florac is the third smallest subprefecture of France, after Castellane in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department (1,557 inhabitants) and Largentière in the Ardèche department (1,789 inhabitants).
