Somali model and actress

Iman Mohamed Abdulmajid (born July 25, 1955), known as Iman, is a Somali-American supermodel. In 1992, she played a queen in Michael Jackson's music video "Remember the Time".

Early life change

Iman was born in Mogadishu, the capital city of Somalia. She went to high school in Egypt. Iman then studied political science at the University of Nairobi in Kenya.[1]

Career change

Modeling change

Photographer Peter Beard saw her on a street in Nairobi and asked if she had even been photographed. When he said he would pay her she asked if he would give her $8,000 and he said yes. That day he took photographs of her. He then took them back to New York. Iman was signed to the modeling agency Wilhelmina.

Business change

In 1994 Iman started Iman Cosmetics. Iman Cosmetics makes makeup for women with dark skin.[2]

Writing change

Iman's first book, I Am Iman, was published in 2001.

Personal life change

In 1978, Iman married American basketball player Spencer Haywood. She had a daughter with him called Zulekha. She works for Iman's cosmetics company.[3] Iman divorced Haywood in 1987. In 1992, Iman married David Bowie.[4] In 2000, she gave birth to their daughter Alexandria Zahra Jones.[5] Iman and Bowie stayed together until his death on January 10, 2016.
