Trammell was arrested in his apartment for a outstanding warrant, from a wellness check a year before, which him and his family didn’t know about.[4] Around half an hour later, he was taken to a jail in Montgomery County, Ohio and placed in a prison cell. Surveillance video later revealed that prison guards "taunted, belittled, and threatened" Trammell.[1]
Trammell begged and screamed to be let out of the cell.[1] He asked for a phone call to his mother, a blanket, some water, and medication.[2] Around 4:15am, he repeatedly banged his head against the wall, injuring himself badly. Guards placed him twice in a restraint chair with his chest, wrists, and ankles strapped.[1]He had also been stripped naked. By the time he was taken to the hospital, he was unconscious, and he died three days later.[1]
