Jacob Joseph "Jack" Lew (born August 29, 1955) is an American politician, lawyer and diplomat who has been the U.S. Ambassador to Israel since 2023. He was the 76th Secretary of the Treasury from 2013 to 2017. He was also the 25th White House Chief of Staff from 2012 to 2013. Lew previously was Director of the Office of Management and Budget in the Clinton and Obama Administrations. He is a member of the Democratic party.

United States Secretary of Treasury Nomination

On January 10, 2013, Lew was nominated to become United States Secretary of the Treasury[1] during Obama's second term replacing Timothy Geithner, who retired. He was confirmed for being the next secretary of the treasury by the United States Senate on February 27, 2013.

Ambassadorship

On September 5, 2023, President Joe Biden announced his intent to nominate Lew to serve as United States ambassador to Israel.[2] On October 31, 2023, Lew was confirmed as Ambassador to Israel by a vote of 53 to 43 along party lines, with only Republican Senators Rand Paul and Lindsey Graham voting to approve his nomination.[3]
