James Wood (governor)
James Wood Jr. (January 28, 1741 – June 16, 1813) was an American military officer and politician. He was born in Winchester, Virginia. He was an officer of the U.S. Continental Army during the American Revolution. Wood was the 11th Governor of Virginia from 1796 to 1799. Wood was replaced as Governor by future President James Monroe. He was a member of the Federalist Party.
