Masako (雅子, Masako), born Masako Owada (小和田雅子, Owada Masako) on 9 December 1963, is the wife and empress consort of the current Emperor of Japan, Naruhito, the eldest son of the previous emperor Akihito,[1] who took the throne after abdication of the latter on 30 April 2019.
