Islam is the second largest religion in India. In 2017, India had 189,000,000 Muslims (followers of Islam). India ranks third of the top list countries which have largest Muslim population, after Indonesia and Pakistan.[1]

Islam arrived in Northern India in the 12th century through Turkic invasions who created the Delhi Sultanate and since then has been part of India's religious and cultural heritage. Over the centuries especially in the Mughal Empire, there has been an important integration of Muslim cultures across India, and Muslims have played an important role in India's economy, politics and culture. However in later times, in specific eras, terrible conflicts broke out between Hindu and Muslim communities, such as for example in the era of the Independence and Partition of India.[2][3] The largest caste of Muslims in India is Shaikh caste 5 largest clans like Biradari, Milki, Abbasi, Bahlim and Hashmi.
