Notre Dame, Indiana

Notre Dame is a census-designated place[4] north of the city of South Bend in St. Joseph County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. Three universities are within Notre Dame: the University of Notre Dame, Saint Mary's College, and Holy Cross College. Part of Notre Dame is in Clay Township and the other part is in Portage Township. As of the 2020 census, its population was 6,342.[3]

Government change

Unincorporated areas do not have a municipal government. Notre Dame's government entities are the United States post office and the colleges' police; all colleges and universities in Indiana are entitled to an independent police force by law.[5] The University of Notre Dame has its own firefighters.[6]

There has been a post office in Notre Dame since 1851.[7] The post office is on the campus of the University of Notre Dame.[8][9][10]

Public Education change

The South Bend Community School Corporation is the board of education for people who live in Notre Dame.[11]
