Atkins was a commissioner of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission from 2002 to 2008 during the George W. Bush administration.[1] In December 2024, President-elect Donald Trump nominated Atkins to serve as Chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission under his second administration.
Early life
changeAtkins was born in Lillington, North Carolina. He grew up in Tampa, Florida.[2] He received his A.B. from Wofford College in 1980.[3] He received his J.D. from Vanderbilt University School of Law in 1983.[2]
Securities Exchange Commission
changeAtkins was a commissioner of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) from July 9, 2002 until his term's completion in August 2008.[2] He served with chairmen Harvey Pitt, William H. Donaldson, and Christopher Cox.
On December 4, 2024, President-elect Donald Trump nominated Atkins to serve as Chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission under his second administration.[1]
