History

In 1839, George Oglethorpe Gilmer and his son bought 5,000 acres of this land here from the United States government. They called some of this land "Plain Dealing" after the their family's Virginia plantation.[3][4] The "Plain Dealing" name became official when the town was founded on April 24, 1890.[3]
