Rita Crocker Clements

First Lady of Texas

Rita Crocker Clements (October 30, 1931 – January 6, 2018) was an American Republican Party organizer and heritage preservationist. She was the First Lady of Texas serving from 1979 to 1983 and again from 1987 through 1991. Clements was born in Newton, Kansas.

In 1996, she was appointed to the University of Texas Board of Regents by Governor George W. Bush, and re-appointed by Governor Rick Perry, serving until November 2007. She was elected to the Texas Women's Hall of Fame in 1996.[1]

Clements died in her sleep of complications from Alzheimer's disease in Dallas, Texas on January 6, 2018 at the age of 86.[2]
