Robert Downey Sr.

American filmmaker and actor (1936–2021)

Robert John Downey Sr. (born Robert Elias Jr.; June 24, 1936 - July 7, 2021) was an American movie director, screenwriter and celebrity. He was the father of celebrity Robert Downey Jr.. Downey Sr. was best known for writing and directing the underground movie Putney Swope.[3] He retired in 2013. Downey Sr. was born in New York City.[4] Downey Sr. starred in Johnny Be Good, Hail Caesar and Tower Heist.

Downey Sr. died in his sleep at his home in New York City on July 7, 2021 from problems caused by Parkinson's disease, aged 85.[5]
