Saw is a 2004 independent American psychological horror-thriller movie. It stars Leigh Whannell, Cary Elwes, Danny Glover and Monica Potter. It is the first movie of the Saw franchise. It was released on October 1, 2004 in the United Kingdom and on October 29, 2004 in the United States. Saw took in almost $100 million earnings worldwide and received high marks (holding a 7.6/10 on IMDb),[1] though also some mixed to negative reviews from critics (50% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes).[2] It was originally rated NC-17 by the MPAA as a result of strong graphic violence, although it was edited downwards and released with an R rating. The theme of Saw centers on the desire to stay alive, appreciation for life, kidnapping, imprisonment and torture. It was followed by eight sequels and a spin-off titled Spiral.

It follows the story of Adam (Whannell) and Dr. Gordon (Elwes) as the subjects of a serial killer's latest game, taking place in a dirty bathroom.
