Seal of Minnesota

official government emblem of the U.S. state of Minnesota

The Great Seal of the State of Minnesota is the insignia that the Secretary of State affixes to government papers and documents to make them official. It was first adopted in 1858. Today, the seal is becoming controversial, especially from Native Americans. A new seal is to be adopted on May 11, 2024, featuring the common loon (the state bird) and the Dakota phrase “Mní Sóta Makoce”.
