Indian Standard Time (IST) is the time zone for India and Sri Lanka. It is 5 hours and 30 minutes forward to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC+5:30). It does not use Daylight Saving Time (DST).

History in Sri Lanka
changeOn 15 April 2006, Sri Lanka Time went back to match Indian Standard Time calculated from the Allahabad Observatory in India 82.5° longitude east of Greenwich, the calculation place for GMT. This time zone is used fully by Sri Lanka.
Since 1880, the time zone in Sri Lanka (also known as Ceylon up to 1972) has changed from UTC+05:30 to UTC+06:30.[1][2]
