changeCould also use a note on Aussie film stars -- probably many Simple English Users are going to encounter Anglophone countries from their films -- RJ092191.user.veloxzone.com.br
Edit by 60.50.155.48 - not an island?
changeThat's certainly news to me. I had always learned that it was an island, a country, and a continent simultaneously. en:Wikipedia seems to have it classified under "Island nations" which must also be incorrect under this understanding. IMO the change should be reverted unless there's some documentary evidence that Australia isn't an island. (I'll admit, though, that I always wondered how to define an island so that America or Eurasia wouldn't qualify.) - PhilipR 19:16, 28 July 2005 (UTC)
Request for disambiguation page
changeAccording to Random House Dictionary [1], Australia is still a continent. Could someone who knows more codes than I change or add a disambiguation page to direct people to the continent and the country? DBlomgren 05:02, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
Motto??????
changeWhere it says the Australian motto there is a blank and nothing is written inside. Could someone comfirm...?--72.137.205.70 01:04, 13 March 2007 (UTC)Johanna
- According to the Australian Department of Foreign Trade, Australia has never officially adopted a national motto (nor animal or plant). Unofficially, the motto "Advance Australia" was used for a while though. -- Creol(talk) 17:06, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
Simple English
changeI wrote quite a lot of this page, but haven't watched it. Back in July , substantial edits were made by a nameless editor, which are all very good and proper, but not Simple! If this was regular wiki I would certainly leave their good work intact.
This is the vocabulary of the well-written stuff I'm about to revert. prescribed, offences, commuted, transportation, outbreak, destinations, initiative, revisited, garrison, infertile, inlet, colleagues, persuade, expedition, achievement, testament, administrative, marshalled, competence, remote, indiscriminately, edible

Can someone semi-protect this page due to vandals? Claimgoal (talk) 12:27, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
Ridiculous motto/anthem edits
changeAustralia's motto is not "Aussie Aussie Aussie, Oi Oi Oi" as is currently written. Nor is the anthem 'Land Down Under'.
"Australia is a country"
changeIs Australia not an island, a continent, and a country? ~ R.T.G 04:27, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- Yes it's an island, and yes it's a country. (Some consider it part of the content of Oceania, but the other two things are not debated.) I don't see what your point is, though. Giggy (talk) 04:33, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- I also can't see your point. We mention both points but discuss the country before the continent because that is what we think most people are interested in. If you think we should mention the continent first, please explain your reasoning.--Matilda (talk) 05:51, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
I had a read of it and the first line said "Australia is a country" but as far as I know Australia is an island, a continent, and a country, and unique in that, so it looked a bit incomplete. Largest one country island in the world and all that and fairly peaceful too it seems. ~ R.T.G 13:20, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
- I have had a bit of a go at rewording - what do you think?--Matilda (talk) 20:09, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
- For me it's very long ,and not very complex and could be a GA. ~ R.T.G 20:36, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
- needs references and there are some mistakes - for example cattle ranching in the centre - but I will work on it (slowly)--Matilda (talk) 20:46, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
- I should point out that the Australian Continent has two (2) countries on it, Hutt River achieved legal indipendence in 1972. Nford24 (talk) 04:39, 23 June 2012 (UTC)
6th Biggest Country
changeMany could read this as 6th biggest country in population. Perhaps adding 'in area' or 'landmass' would help the translation — This unsigned comment was added by 115.70.55.38 (talk • changes) at 13:39, 8 April 2010.
Australians: Two mathematicians in that wikipedia category. More needed
changeThere are only two Australians categorized as mathematicians, as of July ( Peter Gavin Hall, Lily Serna). When one more article about an Australian, gets categorized as a Mathematician, then please inform this page, so that someone can create category: "Australian mathematicians". - What criterion are you suggesting? We don't list people unless they are very significant. Macdonald-ross (talk) 17:58, 5 April 2023 (UTC)
