change- Link elected to Wiktionary
- "Bobby Dodd died in June 1988 at the age of 79 in Atlanta, Georgia." - I don't think there is any need to mention his first name again, just say "Dodd died in..."
- Link quarterback
- "He played for its famous coach, Robert Neyland." - Either drop "famous" or add a reference.
Can't do more now; will review the rest of the article later. Pmlineditor ∞ 06:26, 7 March 2010 (UTC)
- Okay, fixed these issues. Neyland is a particular famous college football coach, but finding references for fame is often difficult, so I've dropped the adjective for now. Thanks for the help, Either way (talk) 06:32, 7 March 2010 (UTC)
There are some words used e.g. "hinted" in the player section that may not be simple, die to the many and different shades of meaning. This is throughout the article, I'll get into the article itself and work on these later if someone gets to them before I. NonvocalScream (talk) 03:58, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
Review
change- Alexander hired him while Dodd was still a student at Tennessee. - I think this would be easier to read as "Alexander hired Dodd while he was..."
- Fixed, though I think I had worked it that way originally to avoid the vague "he" pronoun.
- 'Dodd was a difference in one famous game. - What does "difference" mean?
- I've put it as "played a major role."
- sophomore needs a link.
- Neither us nor Wiktionary have an article; I'll try to get on that later today.
- This was an important game for both teams since they were big rivals. - Probably needs a source, since this could be an opinion more than a fact.
- Took out the word "big." Added a reference to show the rivalry.
- Dodd was named to Grantland Rice's All American team in 1930. - Anything simpler for "named to"?
- "Selected for"? "Selected to be on"? I've put the latter for now.
- That works. –Juliancolton | Talk 23:07, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
- "Selected for"? "Selected to be on"? I've put the latter for now.
- rivalry needs a link.
- Done.
- While Bobby Dodd wanted to win every game, he cared a lot for those who played for him. - "While" is ambiguous here; does it mean "during the time that" or "although"?
- It means although in this case. Suggestions on what to word it as?
- I think "although" is simple enough. –Juliancolton | Talk 23:07, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
- It means although in this case. Suggestions on what to word it as?
- "winning at all costs" should be replaced with something more standard.
- How about "he did not believe in risking his athletes' health in order to win"?
- Works for me. –Juliancolton | Talk 23:07, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
- How about "he did not believe in risking his athletes' health in order to win"?
This should be good for now. Nice work. –Juliancolton | Talk 04:18, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
- I combined the last two concerns into one sentence:
- Perhaps this is better? I think I have addressed all the other concerns, other than the word sophomore. I have requested an article on Wiktionary...hopefully that will come soon (I don't know Wiktionary well enough to make my own).
- Are there any other concerns you see? Thanks! Either way (talk) 22:53, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
- Probably about ready to support the PGA, seeing as TRM's concerns appear to have been resolved. Nice work. –Juliancolton | Talk 23:07, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
Comments
change- I would prefer not to see Georgia Tech being the first ref to the establishment. Use the full name then abbreviate.
- Done.
- "which only three people have done" - ", one of only three people to have done this"... or something. The current wording feels really clumsy to me.
- Done.
- "Alexander hired him Dodd while he was still" - Dodd or him, but not both.
- Yeah, that was a sloppy mistake there. Done.
- "a 165–64–8 career record" not Simple at all. Needs explanation, linking or removal. This is inaccessible to most non-US readers, leave alone Simple readers.
- Restated it with wins, losses, ties.
- Infobox needs en-dashes not hyphens for year ranges.
- Done.
- Same for score record (like you already have in the lead), en dash, not hyphen.
- Done.
- We don't normally repeat first names unless there's more than one Dodd in the article.
- Done.
- Shouldn't All American be "All-American"?
- Done.
- "Dodd would end his career with a " why isn't this just "Dodd ended his"?
- Done.
- Stop repeating "Bobby Dodd" everywhere! Dodd is fine, there's no ambiguity.
- done.
- "it is named in honor of Coach Dodd " Coach Dodd? This is an encyclopedia so we'd normally just say Dodd.
- Done.

- All should be done. Let me know if you have further comments. Thanks for the review! Either way (talk) 22:26, 22 March 2010 (UTC)

changeThere weren't any major problems in this article. I was only able to find two small concerns:
- "He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame as a player and coach[3], one of only three people to have done this.[1]" This could be split into two sentences, to make it simpler: "He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame as a player and coach[3]. He is one of only three people to have done this.[1]"
- Date formats are mixed the refs 5, 9, and 14

- I believe I have fixed both issues at this point. Either way (talk) 19:41, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
