"Bad treatment of women" change

"They became known around the world for their bad treatment of women." I would never personally defend this group, ever, but per NPOV, we do need to try to avoid value judgments such as "bad". How might we better word this so we can still get across the idea, which is definitely important to include in the article? Kansan (talk) 16:54, 2 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, yes, that sounds like a good idea. I can only access part of the source, though. The previous wording focused on lack of freedoms and human rights, which is a bit more specific I guess. Osiris (talk) 04:10, 27 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
In what ways did women get bad treatment? If they were forced to cover their faces - then write that. Give examples of what treatment was against human rights 89.8.98.224 (talk) 11:54, 17 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Update needed... change

As of today, the Taliban control most of Afghanistan. I therefore expect articles about the Taliban, and their value system to get a lot of hits. I therefore think this article needs an update, which should at least mention the following

  • The role of women and girls in the Taleban System is very limited (IIRC, basically to raising children); women's possibilities to work outside this field are very limited, to non-existent. The same applies to education.
  • The possibility of women to move about freely seems to have been restricted
  • I don't know about their rights: Can they get the state to accuse someone of a crime, and expect a fair trial?
  • Violence against non-combattants/civilians: There have been reports of the Taliban engaging in violence agaist civilians/non-combattants, which is goes against the Laws of War (Geneva Conventions,Hague Conventions); possibly we are looking at war crimes.

I would welcome an effort to update the article, to reflect the current situation;a decent article (which is easy to understand) may get us more readers, and in the end, more editors. Note also: Since we are looking at a possibly extremist interpretation of Islam, it is important to write in an unbiased way.--Eptalon (talk) 09:13, 15 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Sources (not English) change

"Good enough"? change

  • "Much criticism of the Taliban came from important Muslim scholars. For example, if a thief was caught stealing something [...], no matter what it was that he stole".
Comment: The criticism is argubly not clear enough for an encyclopedia. 89.8.78.85 (talk) 07:04, 22 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
("arguably" not "argubly"; there is a misspelling in the previous post.) 89.8.87.119 (talk) 13:49, 22 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Way ahead change

I am one of only a few editors currently touching the article. What is still missing:

  • Except for the Taliban (who are in the spotlight right now), there are a few other parties in Afghanistan; likely there will be a struggle for power/influence
  • There's also some form of resistance movement. The most prominent / visible of these is probably the one headed by the former vice-president (who is the child of a well-known fighter, killed by the Talinan)
  • Does it make sense to make a difference between the Taliban in Afghanistan, and those in Pakistan(en:Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan)? - Their views seem to be noticeably different.
  • Would it make sense to bering over more of the sections in "Condemned practices" of the EnWp article, or articles about the different forms of rsistance? - We are likely talking about 4-5 larger EnWP articles. I do not have in-depth knolwedge, and time to do this alone.
  • Could this be a way to attract politically-interested editors from EnWP (possibly with more knowledge) to help?

What do other people think?--Eptalon (talk) 08:36, 29 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

"Stubs" should be started anyhow!
