Kanhashira-gū [ja; fr; simple; en:draft] Shrine is a shrine located in Miyakonojō [en; ja], Miyazaki Prefecture . Its former rank was that of a prefectural shrine, but it is currently a special shrine under the Association of Shinto Shrines [1]. It is also called Kanbashira Shrine . Commonly known as the sacred pillar .

There are two sub-shrines [en; ja] within the grounds : Mikado Shrine (神門神社, Mikado Jinja) and Motobashira Shrine (基柱神社, Motobashira Jinja). [2]

Deity change

The main deities enshrined are Amaterasu Omikami and Toyoukehime Okami, and five other deities are enshrined in the side shrine: Ninigi-no-Mikoto and Ame-no-Tajikarao no Mikoto on the left (right side when facing the shrine) and Ame-no-Koyane [en; ja], Takuhadachiji-hime [en; ja], and Ame-no-Tatamikoto on the right (left side when facing the shrine ). Additionally, the Mikado Shrine (神門神社, Mikado Jinja), a sub-shrine within the grounds, enshrines Ama no Iwatowake no kami [ja], while Motobashira Shrine (基柱神社, Motobashira Jinja) enshrines Sugawara no Michizane and Taira no Suemoto [ja] . [2]

history change

It is said that the shrine was founded in 1026 when Taira no Suemoto [ja], who had moved from Dazaifu [ja] to develop Shimazu Estate [en; ja], received a divine revelation from Amaterasu Omikami that said, "A shrine should be quickly built in this place and the name of the shrine should be called Kanbashira," and so he enshrined [en; ja] a shrine in Umekitamura Masutsuki from Ise Grand Shrine . Since then, it has been revered as the guardian deity of Shimazu Manor. [3]

In May 1873, it was designated a prefectural shrine, and on October 28 of the same year, it was moved to its current location.

The area between the current Ganzo-ji Temple (Maeda-cho) and the current location of Jinbashira Shrine was a field filled with many small pines, so it was called Komatsubara or Matsubara, and there was a villa of the Shimazu family of Miyakonojo called Matsubara Ochaya. Upon the relocation, the area around Matsubara Ochaya was developed into Kanbashira Park [ja] . The shrine's former location was in Masutsuki, Umekita-cho [ja], within the city, and Kuroo Shrine [ja] has been relocated to its site.

After the war, it joined the Association of Shinto Shrines and was designated a special shrine on July 1, 1976 .
