So, why KrakatoaKatie? I chose my new user name to honor a happy memory from my childhood.
Krakatoa Katie is a cartoon character. She stars in a 1945 Mighty Mouse cartoon titled Mighty Mouse in Krakatoa. It is set on the island of Krakatoa. A village of friendly mice live there, and one of them is a girl mouse named Krakatoa Katie. Katie wears a special kind of skirt called a en:sarong, and she does a dance to a very catchy song that talks about how well she "shakes her sarong."
The song and dance make the volcano on the island mad. The volcano gets so mad that it erupts. The mice send out a plea for help and a earthquake scientist gets the message. The scientist drinks a potion and magically becomes Mighty Mouse. Mighty Mouse saves Katie and her friends from the volcano, he gets a kiss from Katie, and they live happily ever after.
Growing up, we watched cartoons in my house every morning before school, and the 'Krakatoa' cartoon was shown at least once every two weeks. By the time I left home, the song had branded itself into my brain. That was a long time ago, but I still remember the cartoon and the song and it makes me smile.
