Norma Jean Serena was a well known victim of the forced sterilization (an operation to prevent pregnancy) of Native American women. Norma Jean Serena, an American Indian, was persuaded to be sterilized and give up her children without wanting to. [1]People took away 4 of her children by telling her that they were unwell.[2] The reason for this was that Serena was supposedly connected with Black people. According to studies done in 1969 and 1974 by the Association on American Indian Affairs, 25-35 percent of all Native American children are separated from their families and placed in foster homes, adoptive homes, or institutions.[3]
