Cindy Lee Miller Sheehan (born July 10, 1957) is an American anti war advocate, who was one of the most well-known faces in the antiwar movement of the 2000s. She was the mother of Casey Sheehan. He was a soldier who died in the war in Iraq.[1] After his death, Sheehan, a grieving mother, felt determined to protest for her late son. Months later, she started traveling around the United States. She spoke at universities, churches, and other communities around the country.[2] In 2005, Sheehan set up camp outside President Bush’s ranch in Texas to protest.[1] Bush refused to meet with her at the White House.[3] Sheehan’s voice and strong protests created controversy throughout the U.S., with many questioning her connection and devotion to her country.[2] Sheehan became the voice of many people who lost family members and friends in the war, and could not speak up.
