Welcome change

Hello! I am assuming you have come over from the English Wikipedia, so you are probably familiar with the way this wiki works. I hope you like it here and decide to stay. One important difference here is that we call edits changes. Here are a few links to help you adjust:

There is much to do here. For example, there are a lot of articles that do not exist yet, which you can bring over from the English Wikipedia and simplify. Do have a look around and see what you would like to do. Thank you for joining us! If you need any help, be sure to visit Simple Talk or contact an administrator. Happy changing! Hi, you're right that I made this post more complex than it should be. I originally found the Simple English page on ChatGPT lacking details and sources, so I tried editing it. I see now my wording was too complicated. I apologize.
I am from India and learned English in school. I should have realized when my phrasing got too complex.
If it's okay, may I try editing the ChatGPT post again? I read the guides you shared.
This time, I will use very simple English and not undo your revision. I will make a new edit from the current page in one single update.
I already have notes and sources from my last try. If you like my edits, they will save other editors work. If not good enough, you can undo them with one click, since it will just be one update. Changes in the sandbox aren't saved or seen, I think.
Of course, if it is not agreeable to you, I understand. Thanks anyway! BeginnerScribe (talk) 19:10, 18 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
And I will mention the copy edits as "changes" as you suggested in my edit summary. BeginnerScribe (talk) 19:11, 18 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Do not add complex language to the page itself. You can work on your edits in your sandbox until they are ready. Operator873 connect 19:15, 18 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
How to share the changes on the main page or with you for review once they are ready in Sandbox? BeginnerScribe (talk) 19:16, 18 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Do I copy the source from the ChatGPT's page to the Sandbox's source, make the edits there, and then copy the source from Sandbox to ChatGPT's page and publish in one step? Is that what you meant? Sorry, I am a bit new to this! Appreciate your patience. BeginnerScribe (talk) 19:21, 18 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
You're welcome to use the WP:Sandbox but I suggested you use your sandbox which you haven't created yet. Either way, yes you can copy/paste the main page into the Sandbox and work on it. When it only contains simple English you can copy it into the main page. Please be aware, a bot cleans WP:Sandbox fairly regularly and you might lose your work if you don't use your sandbox. Operator873 connect 19:24, 18 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Ok, thanks for the information. I did not realize we could create our own sandbox and have now created one for my user. Appreciate your help.
So once I make the edits in my sandbox, I will just share the link to my sandbox with you for review? Right? BeginnerScribe (talk) 19:30, 18 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

I already can see it. Just work on making your changes in simple English. Once you're done, you can move them to the main page. You should probably read WP:HOW since you seem to be not familiar with how our community works. Operator873 connect 19:32, 18 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I worked on it and have published my changes as I felt satisfied. Please have a look once. BeginnerScribe (talk) 20:55, 18 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
If changes are ok by you, perhaps the copy-edit notice on the top can be removed. BeginnerScribe (talk) 20:59, 18 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
It's pretty clear to me you haven't review WP:HOW or the word list that you should use in simple English articles. You should revert your edits now, else they be considered blatant vandalism at this point. Operator873 connect 21:09, 18 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Please accept my apology for the frustration. I have reverted the edit.
For what it's worth, I did review those links you gave me, and you can see in the changes/diff that I replaced some existing words as well with their simpler options. I even broke down complex sentences (already in the current version) into shorter sentences, as per the example in WP:HOW. Furthermore, I added explanations in parentheses for words where there were no links in Simple Wikipedia, as mentioned in WP:HOW.
The only word that I missed was "include" and that's because on doing Ctrl + F on BE1500 list, it shows 1 hit (but "include" was not part of the actual list, just present in the page description).
Regardless, it seems I have upset you. I have reverted my edits and won't be adding any changes in the future. The article in its current form does not seem to follow the guidelines either. I did try my best to improve it. Perhaps it is best left to experienced editors.
Thanks for your replies. Sorry to waste your time. BeginnerScribe (talk) 21:26, 18 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
You're not wasting time. But if you look at your diff, it's rather clear you didn't look at the word list. It's very difficult to write on this project, and takes a lot of practice. Keep practicing and you'll get it. Operator873 connect 21:32, 18 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Can you tell me my most glaring mistake, at least? From the diff. BeginnerScribe (talk) 21:34, 18 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Sure. Several words in your edit are not simple English. Some quick examples are: improved, trial, impressed, accurate, according, released, dataset, various, situations, interactions, initial, demonstration, unreliable, hallucination, and emotion. In addition, if you refer back to WP:HOW, if you must use a complex word you should link to a page about that word or at the very least, the wiktionary definition. Also, your edit broke some existing wikilinks and made unnecessary links to external website. I've since purged the article of most of the existing complex language and promotional tone. You can start from here. Please make sure the words you use are either on the word list, are a derivative of a word on the word list, or are wikilinked to a page or wikt entry if they cannot be simplified further.
