Anon & welcome templates

I think we should go easy with the anon template. Eventually, old IP user talk pages must be deleted so that future users (or those where it's a shared IP) don't get confused. Also, if someone makes only a couple edits, it's fairly likely they will return on a totally different IP and never se the message. Reserve the anon template for users who look like they really want to contribute, say with a minimum of 10 edits. Be careful not to welcome vandals, so check contribs first.

Similarly, I think the Welcome template should only be used when a logged in account actually has made a couple edits. Some people make accounts to have watchlists, or just to check things out. There is a reason why a user talk page is not immediately created by the system. -- Netoholic @ 23:35, 17 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I agree. I will try my best to do these. I do check the contributions of each IP to ensure that they are not a vandal, however. Billz (Talk) 06:23, 18 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Bot

Hello Billz I'm sorry for the recents changes, but I have read here and the bot is done some edits for test....and now I will request the flag...--vector ^_^ (talk) 15:47, 18 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

You are correct in testing the bot and showing us what it will do. I think it has been tested enough now and should apply for a flag. Thank you. Billz (Talk) 15:50, 18 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
I make the request here and I hope you will vote for my Bot. thanks a lot --vector ^_^ (talk) 16:00, 18 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Can you vote for my bot? :-( --vector ^_^ (talk) 15:28, 19 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Where can I vote please? Billz (Talk) 16:09, 19 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Here :-( --vector ^_^ (talk) 16:20, 19 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
As far as I know, that page is just for you to explain what your robot does, however I believe that you have to officially apply for a Bot Flag here. Billz (Talk) 17:01, 19 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sorry Billz for the welcome...but It's ok here?--vector ^_^ (talk) 14:43, 20 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Argh my eyes!

See MediaWiki talk:Uploadtext --LBMixPro<talk|to|me> 08:50, 19 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

What do you think of my username? Billz do you think Anita rules? 00:03, 20 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

You have been blocked. Billz (Talk) 06:15, 20 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Babel

Do you know if the babel templates from the general English Wikipedia are available on the Simple English Wikipedia? I tried copying my userpage from en.wikipedia.org and was wholly unsuccessful. This would be particularly useful in determining what type of English (simple or non-simple) to use when talking to other Wikipedians.

I don't think Babel templates work over here, sorry. As you have done now, I would just list the languages that you can speak under different headings. Billz (Talk) 06:15, 20 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi

Hi Billz. :) How much percent of support do you need to become an admin on this encylopedia? Treebark 23:48, 20 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I think it is when the majority of the votes are either Support or Strong Support after people have had a chance to vote. The ultimate decision is Netoholic's. Also, you have been blocked infinitely for being a suspected sockpuppet of ForestH2. I would like to note that this Treebark has not actually applied to become an administrator and it would appear that he has asked this question using one of his other accounts by mistake. Billz (Talk) 06:14, 21 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hello

Hi Billz,

i´m User:Manecke, and i am fascinated of this simple.english wikipedia. My mother language is germann so i can do a lot to become german articles in the simple.pedia.

My next question is to you, you could i become faster an administrator-job? Because i think i´m the only one in the simply.pedai who can speak german is his mother language, so i would be pleased to become this rights faster.

Thank you, and have still great time in the simple.pedia.

As far as I know, users cannot have priority when requesting adminship on any Wikipedia. We usually recommend that you have made at least 500 to 1000 useful edits and have been here for over 3 months to gain experience. Also, without being an administrator, you can still create, edit, revert vandalism and mark articles for deletion. Thanks. Billz (Talk) 20:21, 21 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Rocks/Minerals

You asked why my edits changed "rock" to "mineral." You are correct that there is a difference between the two terms. However, have you looked at the Rock page? --R'n'B 17:25, 21 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

On the Rock disambiguation page, we could have a link to an article called Rock (Mineral), perhaps? Billz (Talk) 20:21, 21 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Works in the simple.pedia

hello billz,

the simple.wiki has just only 8 active administrators, by an article list of 11,000s. Wahat is your oppinion, about me to become an administrator? i´m not really new in the wiki.world in the de:wikipedia (3.000 Edits).

mfg ---- ארגה · · Manecke 22:08, 22 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately, I would not be supporting you to become an administrator. Simple English Wikipedia is different that other Wikipedia's and we like you to have a lot of experience editing, contributing and helping here, which sets you off for adminship. Also, I prefer our administrators to be native English speakers so that they understand and can respond to what users are saying because some phrases which could be used by vandals may only make sense to English people. I feel that we have enough administrators here to cope with the relatively small amount of edits, and even if they are not contributing, most are online and can be reached by email. Billz (Talk) 22:20, 22 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Re: Just because i´m not an native speaker of english, i´m not compatible for the simple.wiki? A lot of people have an arrangement in the en:wikipedia and aren´t native english speaker. With my native germany i can do a lot of translations or add new articles about germany, austria or swiss. et je peux parler ou ecrive francaise, et cest ne pas mal pour wikipedia. You see i´m not that greenhorn you think i am i really can understand your and the other speeches, also the fact that i´live in germany, the time-difference could be helpful to fight against vadalism, don#t you think. also the main page and other sub-sides have to have a new layout. i really want to help or do you think i just want to play? not really or do you?
mfg --- ארגה · · Manecke 22:35, 22 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
You do not need to have administrative privileges to improve articles, to revert vandalism or to warn users. We welcome all new users to contribute and help us to improve and expand our articles, but to do so, you do not need to be an administrator. Simple English Wikipedia is different to other Wikipedias including EN, so you really do need to spend some time here to understand he we operate. I'm not just against you because you are not a native English speaker, but also because of your lack of experience here, which is vital for any administrator application. Since I live in the UK, I am only one hour behind you, which doesn't make much difference to be honest because I am contactable by email during most of the day. I understand how serious you are about becoming an administrator, but I will not be supporting you. Thanks. Billz (Talk) 09:53, 23 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Category redirects

Hi again Bill :) I'm not so sure your redirect of Category:State in Asia was a good idea - category redirects hide the underlying category, so if someone were to mistakenly put an article in Category:State in Asia, nobody would notice. On the English Wikipedia, old categories are never redirected, but a manual redirect template: en:Template:Category redirect is used to point people at the new location. Even that isn't necessary, especially if the category is already empty, as in this case. The categories (State in Asia and State in Europe) also don't have any links pointing to them, so may I suggest a deletion? Cheers, Tangotango 16:16, 23 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I understand what you are saying. I will delete Category:State in Asia now. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Billz (Talk) 17:14, 23 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for deleting the category :) If you get around to doing it, can you also do the same for Category:State in Europe please? Thanks! - Tangotango 03:34, 24 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Deleted. Billz (Talk) 07:39, 24 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

hello

Hello Billz, how are you? What do you think....can I became an simple admin? not now...but from 1 month?

Thanks for the help with the last vandal...I see the edit in the VF...and I start to rooback ;-) --vector ^_^ (talk) 19:43, 24 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hi Vector. I'm well thanks, you? You did a good job with the latest vandal, but I don't know whether you would become an administrator, to be honest. A few points which would told you back could be concerns over your health (Over 50 edits per day on average is not healthy) and your lack of time here (You have only been here about a month, so when you apply, people may see two month's experience insufficient). The only way to find out whether you could become an administrator is to apply when you feel ready. Billz (Talk) 19:47, 24 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
I'm fine thanks, Thank you very much Billz....yes of course...now It's too soon to became an admin...but on November when I have 3 mounth experience...I write my name in the request of sysop admin...but....Now I'm looking on the list of the stub because some pages has the template {{stub}} but aren't not a stub....so I remove the template....and I will wikify some pages...but I alway seen the last edit with Vf...so do you use VF? good work billz!! :-)) --vector ^_^ (talk) 19:56, 24 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
It may be me being a little dumb, but what is VF, Vector? Also, you will have completed the three month period on 28th November 2006, but you are free to apply before that date. Thanks for sorting out some of the pages which need a bit of work :) Billz (Talk) 20:02, 24 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
VF, is the most usefull programm for FIGHT the vandal!!! I have it open alway in it.wiki and simple.wiki...you can download here it... ;-) --vector ^_^ (talk) 20:09, 24 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
I use the IRC channel for this purpose. Tangobot reports new changes which could be vandalism to us. Billz (Talk) 21:14, 24 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Which article?

Which article are you referring to. Every new article I created came from en:Wikipedia, but I took significant time to simplify them. As I am new to Simple:Wikipedia I may not do a thorough/sufficient/good job, but I am not merely "copy"ing articles. So I take issue with your use of the template. - RoyBoy 21:06, 24 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

The article which you created was deleted because it was thought to be directly copied from EN. I cannot check which article it was without knowing the name of it, sorry. Billz (Talk) 21:09, 24 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

sorry

Sorry for vandalising =( didnt know thought it was something you could jsut test stuff on thanks This unsigned comment was added by 86.4.192.24 (talk • contribs) .

Please do not test any more on articles. If you do, you will be blocked from editing. Billz (Talk) 18:22, 25 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
We have a solution for testing needs! The sandbox is available, so next time, use it, not articles, okay?-- Tdxiang@ 10:38, 26 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
I warned this user with {{test}} which states that they should use the sandbox. Thanks. Billz (Talk) 12:25, 26 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Odd characters in usernames

Hello Billz. Here's a question which might be controversial. The fact is that some users tend to make their usernames look cute. As such, their usrnames have '^' in them. Is this considered inappropriate, or just not recommended? Do let me know. Thank you!-- Tdxiang @ 10:12, 27 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I would suggest that these are inappropriate because it makes it difficult to remember. I think we need an official verdict about this though. Billz (Talk) 10:13, 27 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Assistance needed

Hi Billz, could you help me out with something? I'm sure you've seen the edit dispute earlier today between Netoholic and TBC. Could you restore the deleted templates along with the Dreamcast and Sega Genesis articles and place them on RfD? I just don't have much time at the moment... Archer7 - talk 11:52, 28 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm a little busy at the moment, sorry, but I will look at it later for you. Thanks. Billz (Talk) 12:21, 28 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Featured articles?

As you seem to be a very experience editor on the Simple Wiki (evidenced by your adminship), would please comment on this proposal on Simple talk, advocating for the creation of some sort of featured article process?--TBCΦtalk? 08:11, 29 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I have added my comment. Billz (Talk) 10:08, 29 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedian Registered User Article

Hi. I just was wondering if you were going to start something like an official Wikipedian article or policy about Registered Users; something similar to the Admins article. --§ Alastor Moody (T + C) 03:43, 4 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

???

You said I had vandalized the dharma definition, however, I made several improvments to the paper, and i left some advise on what could be added.

That has happened to me to, i dont know exaclty what I did wrong.

Simple

I am finding several errors with the simple english selection. On almost all of the definitions I have looked up, they seem to be to short. It is frustrating, because the long version is in almost to much detail, whereas their isnt enough detail in the simple english. Please tell me if there is anything you can do about this, or what I should do when i am researching. Hornet101 00:02, 14 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
