West Creek Township was founded in 1839. It took its name from the westernmost of the three nearby large streams.[4]

According to the 2020 census, the township has a total area of 62.07 square miles (160.8 km2), of which 61.96 square miles (160.5 km2) (or 99.81%) is land and 0.12 square miles (0.31 km2) (or 0.19%) is water.[5]
