What to do with articles that do not meet the guidelines

I do not think articles on settlements that fail these guidelines ought to be deleted. Ideally, every single location on the globe will someday have its own article, regardless of how "notability snobs" feel about it. Blockinblox - talk 23:52, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

I think we need to discuss what we will do if people add articles that do not meet these guidelines. Are they eligible for quick deletion? (I do not necessarily feel this is the way to go.) Should they be RfD'ed? (Maybe...) Should we keep them anyways? (Not necessarily...)

And just as a sidenote to Blockinblox: I think that it's pretty rude of you to call people names just because they don't agree with your opinion. Keep in mind that no one is criticizing your opinions. I, for one, respect your opinon and see where you are coming from even though I do not personally agree. Do as you think you must. For my part, I refuse to delete anything that has at least stub-length, and that is reasonable. No matter how many people it concerns. Please note that the city of Che;iabinsk was a calsed city until very recently. The city of 1 millon people (2007) did not exist on maps. So before deleting, think twice if you might not want to leave a stub. --Eptalon 13:02, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

I think notability giudelines are important to the extent that one should (if not must) avoid creating an article about a non-notable object. The notability giudelines are deeply bound with those about reliable sources. A non-notable object (object can be a city or village too) will not be addressed in reiable sources. If we always remind ourselves the rule that we shouldn't write without citing reliable sources, we will automatically stop creating articles about non-notable objects.

It is true that every city or village in the world is (too some extent) notable by itself, but that won't stop me from voting in support deletion of an article about a very small village somewhere in the world, if it doesn't have real reliable references. - Huji ^reply 15:19, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

I suppose it is no great or irreparable loss if an unremarkable village noone cares about gets deleted; it can always be recreated down the road if necessary... but in the event of a disagreement about a specific settlement, unlike with humans or companies, I would rather err on the side of anyone who wanted the settlement kept, for whatever reason they felt was important enough... hopefully they would expand it to include whatever notable information there is about it. Proposed Guideline

This guideline has been changed to a Proposed Guideline as there was no official consensus/vote for it to be accepted as a guideline. There is dispute about this guideline concerning what it should cover, how it should deal with settlement articles, and even if it should be a guideline at all. Prior to the guideline being voted on for acceptance, we need to work out the details fully about it. -- Creol(talk) 02:16, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
