Akash Ambani
Akash Ambani (born 23 October 1991) is an Indian businessman and the Chairman of Reliance Jio, one of India's largest telecom operators and a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL). As the eldest son of Mukesh Ambani, India's wealthiest individual, Akash plays a pivotal role in the digital and telecommunications sectors of the Ambani family’s business empire. Early Life and Education
changeAkash Ambani was born on 23 October 1991 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, to Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries, and Nita Ambani, chairperson of the Reliance Foundation. He grew up in one of India's wealthiest families, alongside his twin sister Isha Ambani and younger brother Anant Ambani.[4]
Akash completed his early education in Mumbai and later attended Dhirubhai Ambani International School. He pursued his undergraduate studies at Brown University in the United States, earning a bachelor's degree in economics.[5]
Career
changeAkash Ambani began his career at Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries, in 2014, shortly before the commercial launch of Jio's 4G services. Initially, he worked on Jio’s product development and digital initiatives, contributing to the launch of various services aimed at revolutionizing digital connectivity in India. Akash played a key role in the "Jio Effect," which significantly lowered data costs across India, making internet access more affordable for millions of people.
In 2022, Akash Ambani was appointed as the Chairman of Reliance Jio, where he has continued to lead efforts in expanding Jio's digital services, including Jio 5G, Jio Fiber, and Jio Platforms. Under his leadership, Jio has been recognized for its technological advancements and contributions to India’s digital economy.[6][7]
Personal Life
changeIn March 2019, Akash married Shloka Mehta, the daughter of diamond magnate Russell Mehta. The wedding was one of the most high-profile events in India, attended by dignitaries, business leaders, and celebrities. The couple has two children, a son and a daughter.
Akash is known to be passionate about technology, sports, and digital innovation. He is an avid cricket enthusiast and supports the family-owned Mumbai Indians cricket team in the Indian Premier League (IPL).[8][9]
