Alsou
Alsou Ralifovna Abramova (Russian: Алсу́ Рали́фовна Абра́мова; Tatar: Алсу Рәлиф кызы Абрамова; née Safina, born June 27, 1983) is a Bugulman singer. She is known simply as Alsou (Алсу́). She is a Tartar and a Muslim, born in Bugulma (Republic of Tatarstan).[1] Alsou only speaks a few common phrases in her own language.[1] At the age of 15 she gained recognition with her first recording, Alsou.[2]

She competed in the Eurovision Song Contest 2000 finishing in second place.[3] She also released her first English album in 2000.[3] Alsou hosted the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 held in Moscow. On 7 July 2011 Alsou was appointed as a UNESCO Artist for Peace by Director-General Irina Bokova.[2] She is a founder and organizer of the International Folk Music Festival of Peoples of the Volga River.[2]
