Battle of Mandan

war between Shekhawati chiefs and Mughals

The Battle of Mandan was fought between the Shekhawat chiefs and the Mughal Empire. This started because they did not pay tribute to the emperor. The Mughals were helped by Ahirs of Rewari under Mitra Sen Ahir and the Baloch chieftains Peero Khan and Kale Khan.[1]

Battle change

When Shekhawati chiefs refused to pay tribute to the Mughals, Shah Alam II orderd two Baloch chiefs; Peero Khan and Kale Khan to invade Shakhawati under command of Rao Mitrasen Ahir . On 6 June, 1775 the Battle took place at a village called Mandan. A pitched battle was fought in which both sides suffered heavy losses. The Shekhawat general Raja Baghsingh Shekhawat[2] and Baloch chief Peero Khan were killed,[3][4] resulting in a combined victory of Mitra Sen Ahir and Kale Khan. Later Rewari annexed Mandan, Jhunjhunu & Alwar.[4][3]

Stories change

It is popular among the people around Mandan that before the war, there were villages of Chauhans there, but when Mitrasen hoisted the flag of his victory in the battle of Mandan, he settled many villages of Ahirs of his gotra there.[3]
