Frederic Morton was an Austrian writer. Originally, he was named Fritz Mandelbaum. He was born in Vienna, on 5th of October 1924, and died there on 20th April 2015. In 1939, the family emigrated to London, and later to New York. In New York, Morton's father changed the family name to Morton. In 1951, Morton came back to Vienna, where he wrote as a correspondent for the US press.
