Gaylord is a city in Smith County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, 87 people lived there.[3]

History
changeGaylord was founded in 1870.[4] It was named for C. E. Gaylord, a native of Marshall County who was one of the town's founders.[4][5] The Gaylord post office opened in June 1871.[6]
Gaylord was a station on the Missouri Pacific Railroad.[7]

changeThe 2020 census says that there were 87 people, 44 households, and 25 families living in Gaylord. Of the households, 79.5% owned their home and 20.5% rented their home.
The median age was 58.1 years. Of the people, 94.3% were White, 2.3% were Black, 2.3% were from some other race, and 1.1% were two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.3% of the people.[3][9]

Government
changeThe Gaylord government has a mayor and five council members. The council meets the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 7:30PM.[11]

changeGaylord is served by USD 237 Smith Center Schools.[12]
Gaylord schools were closed through school unification. The Gaylord High School mascot was a taunting Beaver.[13]
