History change

Gem was a shipping point on the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad.[4] The town was named from the Gem Ranch.[5]

The first post office in Gem was created in 1885.[6] It was closed in March 2014.

2020 census change

The 2020 census says that there were 98 people, 37 households, and 28 families living in Gem. Of the households, 78.4% owned their home and 21.6% rented their home.

The median age was 34.0 years. Of the people, 88.8% were White, 3.1% were Asian, 1.0% were Black, and 7.1% were two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.1% of the people.[3][8]
