Infanta Pilar, Duchess of Badajoz
Infanta Pilar of Spain, Duchess of Badajoz, Dowager Viscountess of la Torre (María del Pilar Alfonsa Juana Victoria Luisa Ignacia y Todos los Santos de Borbón y Borbón-Dos Sicilias; 30 July 1936 – 8 January 2020), sometimes known more simply as Pilar de Borbón, was a member of the Spanish royal family. She was oldest child of Infante Juan, Count of Barcelona and Princess María Mercedes of Bourbon-Two Sicilies. She was the older sister of King Juan Carlos I, Infanta Margarita and Infante Alfonso.
Infanta Pilar supported the sport of equestrianism. She served as the president of the International Federation for Equestrian Sports from 1994 to 2006. From 1996 to 2006, she was a member of the International Olympic Committee for Spain.
Infanta Pilar was born in the French city of Cannes. She lived most of her early years in exile from Spain. King Alfonso XIII, her grandfather, had been forced to flee with his family before she was born.
On 8 January 2020, Infanta Pilar died of colon cancer in Madrid. She was 83.[1]
