Jaynagar Majilpur
Jaynagar Majilpur (or Jaynagar) is a town and a municipality of the South 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is in the southern suburbs of Kolkata. The city is in the area of Greater Kolkata. It is a part of the area covered by the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA).[1] The city is very famous for the confectionery called Jaynagarer Moa.

Geography
changeJaynagar Majilpur is located at 22°10′31″N 88°25′12″E / 22.1751965°N 88.4200762°E. The average elevation of this city is 8 metres (26 ft).[2]
The district is in the Ganges Delta and the southern part is covered by the Baruipur-Jaynagar Plain. Archaeological excavations at Dhosa and Tilpi, on the bank of the Piyali River show people were living there around 2,000 years ago.[3]
People
changeDuring the 2011 Census of India, there were 25,922 people living in Jaynagar Majilpur. 13,234 (51%) of the people were males and 12,688 (49%) were females. There were 2,277 people younger than 6 years old. There were 20,898 (88.38%) people who were older than six years old who could read. Most of the people live in the towns. [4]
