Luíz Gastão (June 6, 1938 – July 15, 2022) was Head of the Imperial House of Brazil from 1981 to 2022 when he died, he took over when his father Pedro Henrique de Orléans e Bragança died in 1981, he was the great-great-grandson of Pedro II of Brazil and great-grandson of Princess Isabel of Brazil.

With the end of the Second World War in Europe, in May 1945, the Brazilian Imperial Family was finally able to return to their homeland, thus ending the unfair and painful exile imposed on the occasion of the republican coup of November 15, 1889.

They lived in Rio de Janeiro and Petrópolis until, in 1951, they moved to the north of Paraná , then the great agricultural frontier of Brazil, where they lived at Fazenda São José, in Jacarezinho, and, from 1957, at Fazenda Santa Maria, in Jundiaí do Sul.

He held the titles of Prince of Orleans-Bragança from 1938 to 1981, Prince Imperial of Brazil from 1938 to 1981 and was head of the Imperial House of Brazil from July 5, 1981 until his death.

Luiz died on 15 July 2022 at a hospital in São Paulo, Brazil from stroke-related problems, aged 84.[1]

On July 16, 2022, his wake took place, which lasted until July 18, 2022. He was buried on July 18, 2022 at Consolação Cemetery in São Paulo He held the titles of Prince of Orleans-Braganza from 1938 to 1981, Imperial Prince of Brazil from 1938-1981 and was the head of the Imperial House of Brazil, from July 5, 1981 until his death
