2020 United States presidential campaign of Mark Sanford

The 2020 presidential campaign of former U.S. Representative and Governor of South Carolina Mark Sanford began on September 8, 2019 when Sanford announced his plans to challenge incumbent president Donald Trump for the Republican nomination in the 2020 election.[1]

After months of speculation, Sanford planned on making the announcement in South Carolina on September 2, but postponed the announcement due to Hurricane Dorian. A formal announcement was made on September 15.[2] Two months later on November 12, he dropped out from the race.[3]
