Merthyr Tydfil
Merthyr Tydfil (Welsh: Merthyr Tudful), also called just Merthyr, is a town in Merthyr Tydfil County Borough, a principal area of Wales. According to a 2018 estimate, 60,183 people live there.

It is located 20.25 miles (32.59 km) north north-east of Cardiff, the capital city.
It is the largest town and the county town of Merthyr Tydfil County Borough and is in the preserved county of Mid Glamorgan. It is one of Wales' biggest towns.
Between 1948 and 2009, appliance manufacturer Hoover had a washing machine factory operating there.
Language
changeIn 1891, 68.4% of people who lived in the town said they could speak Welsh. In 2011, the number had fell to just 8.9%. English is the most spoken language there.
Transport
changeMerthyr Tydfil has a train station. It is on the Merthyr line from Cardiff Central. There is also a large bus station there.
Sports
changeMerthyr Tydfil has a football team called Merthyr Town FC. They were founded in 2010 after an older team, Merthyr Tydfil FC, had dissolved. Even though they are a Welsh team, they play in England's leagues. Their home stadium is Penydarren Park.
