Sean Patrick Maloney

American lawyer and politician (born 1966)

Sean Patrick Maloney (born July 30, 1966) is an American lawyer and politician who has been the United States Ambassador to the OECD since 2024. He was the U.S. representative from New York's 18th congressional district from 2013 to 2023. He is a member of the Democratic Party.

Maloney ran for New York Attorney General in 2018, but lost to Letitia James in the primary. From 1999 to 2000, he was the White House Staff Secretary during the Bill Clinton administration.[1]

Maloney is openly gay.[2] He lost his re-election bid in November 2022 to Mike Lawler.

In May 2023, President Joe Biden nominated Maloney to become Ambassador to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.[3] With bipartisan support, he was confirmed by the United States Senate on March 12, 2024, by a vote of 63 to 31.[4]
