Sofía Ímber

Venezuelan journalist and cultural activist (1924–2017)

Sofía Ímber (May 8, 1924 – February 20, 2017) was a Romanian-born Venezuelan journalist and philanthropist. She was known for being a supporter of the arts and for promoting contemporary art in Venezuela. She was the founder of the Contemporary Art Museum of Caracas.

Ímber was born in Soroca, Kingdom of Romania, now Moldova to Jewish parents. Imber moved to Venezuela with her family when she was six years old, in 1930.[1] Ímber married Venezuelan journalist and diplomat Guillermo Meneses in 1944.[1]

Ímber died in Caracas, Venezuela on February 20, 2017 from congestive heart failure, aged 92.
