Emergency telephone numbers

change

I have used Wikidata as a source for adding Anguilla, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, and the Cayman Islands as participating countries. However this should be checked since it is vitally important information that people may rely on when traveling to those countries.

You will also notice that Argentina is mentioned in the article but not on Wikidata. Ottawahitech (talk) 13:45, 28 November 2018 (UTC) Please ping meReply

IMO listing all the countries in the lede isn't the way to go and I really don't think people would default to Wikipedia, much less the Simple English Wikipedia for vital travel information. Hiàn (talk) 20:32, 28 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Hiàn: Thanks for replying. If you were traveling to a foreign country where would you look to find vital travel information? Ottawahitech (talk) 14:28, 29 November 2018 (UTC) Please ping meReply
Probably Wikivoyage if I'm doing general research about travel to a foreign country; for specific emergency services numbers I might actually visit the en-wp page but there are a variety of sources on the web (even with a quick GSearch). We might want to include a small list in a section of the article, perhaps with a {{see also}} linking to a more comprehensive list (of course once one is created). @Hiàn: (and others) I checked the link from Wikivoyage#Other_websites and tried to do a search on the term Emergency, but did not find any items. I then clicked my way starting on their main page, and through travel topics, health (more) where at the bottom of the long page I found What to do if you get sick or injured which says: For GSM phones 112 should connect you to the local emergency number (but better safe than sorry). You can try 112 or 911 with any phone and hope they are forwarded to the right place. Your insurance company may also have a helpline.
Now if I happened to be an unprepared tourist visiting a foreign country, I would hate to have to go through all that if I had an emergency. I also find the list you mention above for the en-wikipedia cumbersome (what if I don’t know which continent I am on?), but am not sure how one would fix that. Any ideas? If you are an unprepared tourist you aren't going to a wiki for that kind of information. You would likely just call the operator... -DJSasso (talk) 17:32, 30 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
