Still missing
changeI hope the information that the symbiosis does not need to be good for both partners will re-appear at some point in time...--Eptalon (talk) 15:54, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
- It's still there! -- under 'Partners who keep their DNA separate'. I'll put in a sentence to make it clearer. Macdonald-ross (talk) 16:22, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
Nile crocs & Egyptian Plovers
changeThis story from Herodotus is probable correct, but no reliable reference has been found. I have certainly seen on BBCtv several sequences which show Nile crocs with birds on their head and back. As usual, I didn't make notes at the time, but in due course, if I find a good source, the section will be back. Relationships between insectivorous birds and large mammals is quite common. - Thanks for pointing this out. I wanted to authenticate it with a reference, but had trouble finding a reliable source. The English Wikipedia page on the Egyptian Plover says that the story may be apocryphal, so I temporarily removed it pending a reference; feel free to reinsert it if you see fit. - I've found on the web a photograph from a reputable photographic firm, which may be a fake ('digital reconstruction'): [1] and a wider range of examples: [2]
Also, egrets and oxpeckers do the job for a whole range of large mammals. I'll work something out. Macdonald-ross (talk) 08:34, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
