Tea Party Movement
The American Tea Party movement favors small government. A famous slogan is "don't tread on me!"
The American Tea Party movement is libertarian. Libertarians value personal freedom or 'liberty'. They fear that big government could take away a citizen's right to speak freely, carry a gun or choose how their tax money gets spent. The Tea Party opposed gun control and demanded that politicians spend less money so that the debt could be reduced.
Barack Obama's presidency coincided with the height of this movement.
