Welcome!
changeHello, Tygartl1, and welcome to the Simple English Wikipedia! I hope you will be happy helping here. You should begin by reading these pages: Wikipedia:Useful, Help:Contents, Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines, and how to write Simple English articles. If you want some ideas of which pages to work on, read Wikipedia:Requested articles or the list of wanted pages.
Even though it is a good idea to research an article (like looking at the discussion page) before making large changes, please be bold and try! Any changes you make that are not perfect can be fixed later. We are also working most on core articles and the most common topics until this Wikipedia grows.
If you want to ask a question or talk with other members, you can visit our version of the "village pump" at Wikipedia:Simple talk. Administrators on Wikipedia can also help you with more difficult problems. You can also ask me for help. The best way to do that is to leave a message on my talk page. You should always sign your messages on Talk pages by typing "~~~~" (four tildes) at the end of your words.
Good luck and happy editing! PullToOpenTalk 20:42, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
Vietnam War
changeThe category Vietnam War is a subcat in Vietnam History (which is a subcat of Vietnam). The article is already in Vietnam and Vietnam History. -- Creol(talk) 23:30, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
Basic English word list deletions
changeMany of the terms in the BASIC English word lists (850, 1000 and any others out there) will be nothing more than a basic definition if they are even that much (The, an, then, etc..). The process with all pages listed as purely definitions has been brought up several times (most recently Wikipedia:Requests_for_deletion/Log_3#January_2007). Many words on the lists can have full usable articles (Car, newspaper, television) where more than just a few words can describe it or its history. Since the end of the RfD on the listings, I have removed close to 30 pages and redid maybe 5 (to get them up to decent stubs from definitions). Absorption is one that may be expandable (as a disambig to pages we do not have or as one of the pages if someone wanted to create it) but in its current state is was only a definition which is not what wikipedia is (WP:NOT).
Should all BE words have a page? yes and no. If the page can be more than "After is something that comes later than something else." then yes it should. If a simple definition is all that exists for the word, then it already has a page, on wiktionary and we should be linking to that article rather than creating an article that is against the statement about wikipedia is not. (and yes, I need to get to after, it was not on the list but should be.) All BE words should have a page, but that page does not have to be on Simple.wikipedia, it may be on simple.wiktionary. -- Creol(talk) 05:33, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
Hmm.. actually I thought I covered that problem somewhere.. may have been in an article I lost in a user failure with IE7.
Yes, I can certainly see it potentially caused issues. Right now, I routinely check my list of pages deleted as well as every new page created to ensure that the pages do not get recreated. People will always link words, and deleted pages will have the same issue with pages we do not have, they eventually show up on the wanted pages list and get created or someone decides to create them randomly. For now, with a smallish list it is not hard to keep an eye out and randomly check "Whatlinkshere" for any links to clean up, but as the list grows, it will certainly get harder. Best case scenario, eventually the software will allow interwiki redirects and the pages can be fixed that way. Worst case would be creating the page with just a simple template pointing to simple.wiktionary. It is best that the reader gets to the page directly from what they are reading instead of going to a page that says "Sorry, we do not have anything for you, look over there -->". If the list gets too big and unmanageable, We will have to go with that plan, but hopefully something will come up before that point to solve the issue. I am not entirely certain which way it should be handled as it is.. but for now keeping the course seems the best plan until things go all screwy. Attempts to discuss the problem usually seem to just end up with lots of people running for cover trying to ignore the issue. -- Creol(talk) 16:56, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
Your to do list
changeTo be honest, I never saw your to do list. I usually do not bother checking people's userpages. I was bored, checked the most wanted list and cleared of the top 3 items on the list before heading off to bed. Should someone be required to check every userpage before they try to clear up items on the wanted list? -- Creol(talk) 03:21, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Those 3 just happened to be the first 3 on the wanted page lists (54, 52 and 52 links each). I probably would have kept going, but #4 was one of the English monarchs and I realy do not like doing those articles. :) It was just a weird co-incidence.. -- Creol(talk) 14:18, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Human Be-In
changeHi, thanks for your comment. Of course, it is hard for me to feel the same way as you about there being "too much information" because I was the creator and original designer of the article myself - mostly based on the en: version. I don't feel it is too complex, and I feel it is important to give some background information about the way many people at the time were reacting to Lyndon Johnson's policies, as manifested both in Indochina (late 60s) and in the Ghettoes (early 60s). There is not very much information on this time period on the Simple Wikipedia yet. If there were, it would be a different story. The specific sentence you mentioned is probably the most tangential, but at the moment there is really nothing on any other article that can be linked to, covering the background of the 60s. The other differences between your version and mine mainly involve links to as-yet unmade articles: Haight-Ashbury, counterculture, psychedelic, mantra, all of which we eventually hope to have. - OK I see we have mantra already.. Blockinblox - talk 16:32, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
Interwiki
changeHi, Tygartl1 - thanks for your welcome message. I'm familiar with categories from the English wiki, but sometimes I get a bit lazy, sorry. I'll try and do better in future. One thing that puzzles me - how do I get the long list of inter-wiki languages easily, so I can add them to the article? Do I copy them from the English wikipedia article? I'd be grateful for some pointers, thanks. Berek 14:58, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the clarification! Berek 15:08, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
When I copy the categories, a lot of them are red-linked here on simple, should I still copy them? Berek 15:39, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks again - I get the idea! :o) Berek 16:22, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
Barnstar
changeCongratulations: You have been awarded a [[Category:Excellent work]] Barnstar!

embedded cats
changeFor many template, if they have a transcluded doc to go with them (it should say at the top that it does), all categories and iw links are kept on the /doc page for the article. The tranclusion copies them over as IncludeOnly's. That should be the problem with the first few, the later ones most likely are cats built into the templates that the user in question likes to use. He creates them in his own userspace rather than making true templates out of them so you either have to edit his userspace, Subst: the template then go back and remove the category, or copy the template to the template space, trim the category and redo the link on the page. That should take care of the others you mentioned from him. Hope this helps -- Creol(talk) 17:34, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Cat:Bodies of water
changeNo problems with the questions. As for the cat, Bodies of water makes a lot more sense especially with the definition of waterway any body of water that can be used for transportation and somehow waterfall is a sub-cat. I just don't see people traveling on waterfalls that much.. Unfortunately, categories can not be moved. They might be able to be redirected, but that's never a good idea. That leaves replacing the cat on each page in the category. Best bet there is either ask on of the bot runners to have their bot do it, but if it is slow enough that the changes won't clog the new change page that bad, it can be done by hand (or near enough..) I'll make the changes during a slow period. -- Creol(talk) 00:56, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Interwiki order
changeHi Werdan7! I noticed that your bot changed the alphabetical order of the interwiki. It put them in alphabetical order according to the shortening instead of according to the written out version it produces. For example, on Vertebral column, the interwiki is now listed as:
|
|
|
As you can see, the abbreviations are in alphabetical order. But the "in other languages" section is now listed as:
|
|
|
which is not in order. I didn't know if you were aware that your bot does this. I believe that the standard way of ordering the interwiki is so the "in other languages" section is alphabetical, not the other way around. · Tygartl1·talk· 14:30, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
This meta page lists various methods of sorting interwikis. I'm not sure why, but when ChongDae made the page, he put this wiki under the By order of own language's alphabet, based on two letter code section, so there may have been a poll or something. Also, this method is more common, being used both at the English and German Wikipedias, and on interwiki.py. Good catch, though.--Werdan7T @ 19:25, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
I did not know that that page existed. Thank you for pointing me to it. I think you should have another look though. If you look under "By order of alphabet, based on local language", you will notice that it is done this way on both English and Simple English. · Tygartl1·talk· 20:55, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Blocked QualityComptrol, about to undo their edits. Those guys were smarter than most, the only definite thing linking them in contribs is calling rainbows "God's necktie" and the Muteki Industries references. Nice work, I would have missed that. Archer7 - talk 20:30, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Interwiki links
changeHi, Thanks for your letter. If I am cutting and editing a Wikipedia article, I cut the interwiki links, but lately I have been doing articles without the main Wikipedia as a source. Interestingly, some of the new SEWiki articles I did don't have interwiki links on the MAIN wikipedia articles either (for example "gauntlet" and "kilt")Nazamo 15:04, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, yes, something must be wrong, because I can no longer see any interwiki links in Wikipedia. I'll try and look up the possible reasons for thisNazamo 18:09, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
Interwiki links
changeHi, is there a quick way to find what other languages the articles exist in? You added the links to Weasel very quickly :) Majorly (hot!) 16:44, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
