Wiktionary links change

Linking to wiktionary in an article is done with a [[wikt:<insert word here|<insert word here>]] tag, right? Just want to double-check. Razorflame 23:16, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Yes, if you want to link just the word. If you want to say that Wiktionary has a page on that word, you can use {{wiktionary}}. · Tygrrr... 23:58, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Good articles and proposed article demotions change

Hey there Tygrrr! I just want to ask if you would like to vote on any of the proposed good articles at this page: WP:PGA. The good article program is in need of voters, so I think it would be appreciated if you would visit that page and place your votes on any of the pages that are up for voting at this time. Also, it might be a good idea for you to visit the proposed article demotion page as well and vote on those, because we are still deeply in need of voters on this topic. Thanks, Razorflame 15:20, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

I fully intend to when I have the time. Voting on GAs, VGAs, and demotions is a very time-consuming activity for me because it requires reading the article thoroughly and critically. I feel it's irresponsible to vote without giving the articles the appropriate amount of time they deserve to make an informed decision. Therefore, I refuse to contribute with anything short of my full attention.
I know you have good intentions, but you know that I was deeply involved in the process of deciding new criteria. It should therefore be obvious to you that I'm interested in the GA and VGA process. I think that is why you have chosen to comment to me about this. However, it would be nice of you to assume that I'll continue my interest in the project, without prodding, when I have the time to do it right. I find these "proddings"/suggestions by you to be unnecessary and, frankly, off-putting.
I'm not trying to "bite" you, so I hope you are not too offended by what I am saying. I'm trying to gently, but firmly, let you know that your suggestions can sometimes be viewed as pushy and/or condescending. This is not a new subject between us. I think you've discussed it with other users as well (Lights, if I'm remembering correctly). I hope you'll consider what I've said and think about whether your suggestions will be appreciated before making them.
I'm not mad at you, so please don't think it. How could I be angry with someone who has such a clear interest in improving this wiki? :-) But, like I said, making suggestions to users should probably be something you should do sparingly. Please consider what I've said. · Tygrrr... 15:54, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
I am not offended by what you said. I realize that this might be considered pushy, it's just that I want to help get the GA process on its feet because it is imperative to get it on its feet quickly so that it can get going. I realize that I prod a bit too much and it is something that I am trying to work on. I know that you were a big part in making the GA and VGA requirements policy here on the Simple English Wikipedia, and I know that you will definitely have an interest in it. I realize that you will definitely vote on things when you have time, I was only giving you this message because I wanted you to know that both of these processes are now unfrozen and that voting is active in both of them. Razorflame 16:00, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
Again, seeing as I was the person who set the date for when the process would be unfrozen, it should be obvious to you that I know its unfrozen. · Tygrrr... 16:11, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
I wasn't sure if you knew that the articles for demotion was unfrozen because I unfroze it the same day that the GA process was unfrozen. Sorry if it sounded pushy. I should've written a short note to you saying that the process for article demotion was unfrozen earlier than you were expecting. Sorry about this. Razorflame 16:14, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
This certainly looks like you knew I knew it was unfrozen. · Tygrrr... 16:16, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
Never mind then. I'm sorry I posted this in the first place. Razorflame 16:20, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

PVGA page change

What are we going to do about the pages that are listed on this page that were listed before it was frozen? Are we just going to remove them? Razorflame 17:07, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

United States and Canada change

When I nominated both of these articles for good article status, they did not have the unreferenced tag on it. I know of all the requirements; I know that they didn't have them on there when I nommed them. Razorflame 15:52, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

You may have checked for a template at the top but you apparently didn't check whether there was a references section at the bottom. It's important to be thorough. And that note was directed to everyone who supported their promotion, not just you. Not everything is personal. · Tygrrr... 15:55, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
Alright. Razorflame 16:02, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

Lenzburg change

I went out hunting for references for the article Lenzburg. Not a whole lot of info out there and much of what I found was from the city's homepage (and in german no less.. google translates german fairly well though). I tagged individual points (population, the roman theater, festivals) directly, and just referenced the entire pages on the history of the city and castle as they pretty much cover the the entire history section. When you get a chance, take a peek and see if they meet your expections for removal of the unsourced tag. -- Creol(talk) 21:25, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

Looks good. Thanks for doing that. · Tygrrr... 21:31, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

Re:Page redirect change

Odd, I tried that, it didn't work. Maybe it fails if I capitalize the 'R'. No, I just tried it again and it displayed:

1.redirectpage I was trying to redirect to

I'm only using the Preview feature as not to create a lot of irritating test pages or redirects that the admins need to clear up, does it maybe not display properly in Preview? The Wolf Bark 01:04, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Redirects don't appear correctly with the Show preview, but it will work when you save, unless you have a typo.-- Lights  talk  01:07, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Templates change

What do you think of possibly adding these templates to the pages for RfA, WP:PGA, WP:PAD, WP:PVGA, and other such voting pages? Do you think that it would be a good idea to incorporate them into the Simple English Wikipedia? Razorflame 16:07, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Chopstick change

Hi there Tygrrr. I just wanted to express my feelings towards the decision to have this article as a GA. I would have to say that this article isn't a GA because it doesn't meet all the requirements. Even though it isn't explicitly listed under the 8th requirement, I would have to agree that the {{fact}} template is an article improvement template, and therefore, Chopstick fails the 8th requirement to be a good article. As you have already expressed your concerns about having GA's that don't meet the requirements, I would have to say that we take another look at this article, and demote it to GA status because of the {{fact}} templates. Have a good day otherwise! Razorflame 16:18, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

I have commented on Simple talk about this. As I mention there, you and I both voted to keep it as a GA. I have admitted that I was distracted and made a mistake in this. You would do well to check that you are half the reason it wasn't demoted all the way. Thanks. · Tygrrr... 16:22, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
I have also commented on the Simple talk page expressing that I, too, was distracted and therefore, made a mistake in keeping it as a GA. Razorflame 16:23, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Re Timpani change

I notice that you recently slapped a demotion label on it. I was wondering if you had checked the recent editis to see if it had been improved, in order to maintain its status? Amandajm (talk) 10:55, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

I "slapped a demotion label on it" because it's been listed on Wikipedia:Proposed article demotion since February 12. It wasn't an arbitrary addition and I'm not the one who originally posted it for demotion, so I have no more vested interest in whether it's been improved than anyone else. The short answer is, no I haven't checked up on it lately. When I vote on the article, you can be sure I'll have looked it over thoroughly to see if the issues Eptalon thought it had have been improved. · Tygrrr... 14:48, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Lemonparty and Keysdoor change

I was wondering if you think it is worth it to post a CU on these two accounts. They both joined at the same time, and they both have been vandalizing the same pages (more or less). Does this qualify for a RFCU? I'm unsure if it does. Razorflame 17:22, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

I don't see a point. They're blocked now for being vandalism only accounts. The only reason for a CU that I could see would be if there was suspicion they're someone else (i.e. from before). · Tygrrr... 17:32, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
Ok. I have a suspicion that both of those accounts are linked to the same computer, or even the same range because of their changes, but I see now that the only thing that needed to happen was a block for vandal only account. Thanks for clearing this up. Razorflame 17:34, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks change

Thanks, Tygrrr, for pointing out the fact that I forgot to check the block logs before I posted my comment in the AN. I have learned to do that now before making a comment like that in the AN again :0 Razorflame 21:25, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Wrestling vandalism change

The IP changes made to the various WWE articles were indeed vandalism. Christianman's reverts were dead on target for getting the articles back to the correct information. I had caught the first batch of edits that were made by the IP that day, but I was working on updating the "Most Wanted" articles list when they came back later that day. The IP editing pattern for the range seems to indicate the IP is dynamic (all IPs used to edit are only used in a single period of time, there is no activity by the same IP on seperate days to indicate a static IP) so any long term blocking would need to be range based and there does not seem to be enough need for that extreme of a measure for the damage done. -- Creol(talk) 06:45, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

RfA change

Hello Tygrrr. I was wanting to know from an admin if I should run for adminship. While I had 2 pervious RfAs, both which came out unsuccessful, I was wondering if I should run for adminship, again. Why I'm asking you is because I'm not 100% sure for myself if I should or should not have a third RfA. Well I thought that I first get some opinions from somebody before running a RfA so I could like know if I'm ready. Having numerous failures dosen't really help anybody. --§ Snake311 (I'm Not Okay!) 09:25, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

I generally prefer not to answer these types of questions asking me to judge how others are doing as editors but I suppose I can because I don't want to be rude and not reply. I think you have had some recent civility issues that make me question whether you're ready for the responsibilities involved with being an administrator. Admins are expected to be involved in major issues on-site and to keep a cool head in these situations, make rational decisions, and always keep in mind what's best for the community. I'm not convinced you are ready for this. This is only one person's opinion, though. The fact that you have doubts about whether to run again says to me that you probably should wait until you're more sure. If you want to be truly sure that the community thinks you're ready, you may want to do what I suggested to Razorflame and wait until a respected user wants to put his or her own name on the line by nominating you. I hope this helps you with your decision. · Tygrrr... 16:47, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

World War I change

I am disappointed with this article. This page, at best, is just a collection of short stubs about many of the different events of World War I. Before I added some sources to the first part of the article, this whole article was completely unsourced. It would also seem that, by looking at the English Wikipedia's version of this article, that we are lacking in this article, and that some of the information presented in this article is either incorrect, or is unsourced. Clearly, this is an article that is critical to a Wikipedia, because of how big of a historical event it was, so shouldn't our version of this article be as in-depth and critical as some of the other Wikipedia's versions of this article? I recently thought that this article would be a good GA, but after going in-depth into this article, I have decided that this article would need a lot of work before I believe that it will be able to even be able to pass the GA requirements. I would like to suggest you take a look at this page and help to fix this article up to make it as good of a GA as possible. Thanks for reading this long message. Vandal Warner update change

I updated Vandal Warner to allow custom signatures. I've also made the required changes to your monobook.js so it'll show the messages as you desire. Please purge your browser's cache, then go to Special:Preferences and select Vandal Warner from the Gadgets section. Let me know if there is something wrong. - Huji reply 20:02, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Oh.. right! Vandal Warner is aimed to be a Vandal Warner only. Not a useful-links-in-the-toolbox provider! For that, I've added the appropriate code to your monobook.js and you just need to purge the browser's cache again! Like before, if thers is a problem, leave a message on my talk page. - Huji reply 21:48, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Edit summaries change

Thanks for the reminder, Tygrrr. I get quite impatient, in particular with editors who make formatting changes or insert a large box and don't use the "Show preview", or if they do, don't seem to notice that they have created a large gap in the text. How does one get the message across, gently?

It also concerns me that articles are promoted to "Good" or even "Very Good" that have vital facts missing. The article on Pope John Paul II, for example, that waffles on in the introduction about which popes have reigned the longest, but fails to state what year he became pope. Further down the page, having said that he was ordained, states "Some years later he became bishop of blah, archbishop of Poland and a cardinal".... as if all three happened together, at some date of no real significance. These are the main stages of his biography on the way to becoming pope.

I can see a real usefulness in Simple English Wikipedia, which is why I take some time out of regular wiki to edit it. But when I find an article as inadequate as that, set up as the good article of the day, it makes me cringe. The critical review process really needs to be much more critical. When an article is put up, one presumes that its writers watch its pages. I have observed that writing a detailed review of what the article needs to improve it, on the article's discussion page, gets nowhere. The article gets promoted without the improvements being made. This sort of thing simply doesn't happen on regular Wiki, where the promotion process is gruelling. If someone has made a suggestion for improvement, you either make it, or refute their reasoning for it. You don't ignore it.

I shall try to be more polite....

Thank you for your vote in my RfA. I understand that you still don't trust me on some issues like protecting and blocking, and if I receive the tools, I will make sure that I won't let you down. I will definitely think twice before blocking someone and I will definitely think more before protecting a page. I know that you don't like voting Oppose for me, but I understand that you have to be honest about your opinions and I am truly grateful that you were at least honest. I would rather you have been completely honest and sincere with your vote instead of a forced support. There are no hard feelings between us just because you voted as you felt like you needed to. It seems that you were right about my RfA passing this time. Currently, it sits at 11 support, 1 oppose. Even though I know you know this, please remember that I know that you still have issues with me becoming an administrator.

This is what I have to say to you: I will always take my job as an administrator seriously, no matter what happens, and I will always think before I act. I will stay out of discussions that I know nothing about, but if it is an issue that needs to be addressed, such as the Inkpen2 issue, then I will always think it through thoroughly before I compose a response to that issue.

I will always think twice before I block someone, unless it is completely obvious, or is a decision that could be completed using common sense. I will never use protection as a first line of defense, unless that page was receiving extremely heavy vandalism (>5 edits a minute.

I hope that this eases some of the doubts that you still have about me and I wish you the best of luck in the future. Cheers, Razorflame 15:02, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Yep. Been there longer than I've been here although I'm much more active here. (That's what the "  EN Wikipedia" link on my user page is for. :-) ) · Tygrrr... 16:08, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

My school change

Sigh, my school keeps on vandalizing pages on here. I most certainly am not part of that. If it is true, then someone else in this school of mine is vandalizing Wikipedia. My school has been blocked on the English Wikipedia since about September of 2004 and now it looks like people are vandalizing from my school here now. :( Razorflame 20:04, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Wikiproject Novel change

Hi Tygrrr,
and thanks! I'll ask you just one more question: is there a fixed (or generally accepted) guideline for articles about novels? If not, I'll follow the general ones I got used to. I just don't want to make mistakes. --Austroungarika hi! 20:05, 21 April 2008 (UTC) ps. nice to meet you!

I'm not sure what sort of guidelines you mean: notability guidelines, formatting guidelines... something else...? You'll probably be fine following what you're used to. And don't worry about making mistakes. We all do sometimes and someone will surely point you in the right direction if you do. :-) Lights might be more helpful about any guidelines for novel articles than me, as he is the creator of the project. Hope this helps. Happy editing! · Tygrrr... 20:28, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Help!!!! change

This site is really confusing to use. First of all - yesterday i spent about 5 hours making a new wikipedia page on an authentic professional wrestler from Britain. he is a new friend of mine that i told i would create a page for, as his partner does have a page. I added match results, DOB, real name, the lot. The only thing i see that could have caused a problem with the page was the pic i used, copyrighting etc, though it was a pic he gave permission for me to use, i was confused how to use it. However, i tell him that i did his page, he goes to it and it's been deleted. It made me wanna cry in anger to be honest, i'd understand if it was a page that i spontaneously just created on fiction, but it was legit. Could you please please undelete it, i dont care if the pic cant be used again, i spent alot of time and effort doing it. The name of the wrestler is 'The Juggernaught' spelt just like that, it was the only page with that name, so if you go through the directory, you should find it with ease. Please could you add things on it for me, i mean, to prevent it from being deleted, i know it's asking alot of you, but you know what you're doing. You can check any UK wrestling site that will confirm his authenticity if you're in doubt.

Now we come to problem 2 - i tried logging in and it wont let me, saying my user name is not recognised, i have 2 accounts, both unrecognised now. It's frustrating.

But if you could please let me know about the page that got deleted, i'd really really appreciate your help.

Thanks for your time.

Hi. It appears you've somehow stumbled onto Simple English Wikipedia, requesting that a page be undeleted on English Wikipedia. The page you're referring to has never been created, nor deleted, here on SE WP. It was however deleted at English Wikipedia [1]. I'd suggest you check out en:Wikipedia:Notability to be sure of the notability of the subject and en:Wikipedia:Deletion review for information on how to proceed if you still feel the article was unjustly deleted.
As I'm not an admin on EN WP, I'm afraid that I'm not able to help you with your log-in problem over there. · Tygrrr... 13:43, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Question change

I've been creating articles here about British politicians, and I just did the sensible thing and read What Simple English Wikipedia is not and I see that the articles I've just created might fall foul of it. Could you give a view on this. Cheers, JulesN Talk 04:00, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

Just to let you know that Creol has already answered by question. --JulesN Talk 12:47, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

That was fast change

Thanks. I'm now wondering where Wikipedia:Requested moves is... Dungeons and Dragons and the redirect Dungeons & Dragons should be swapped as the '&' is very much the norm. Cheers, User:Jack Merridew a.k.a. David 13:36, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

I don't think we've had enough volume of requests for moves in the past to warrant having its own page. On SE, most people either just move it themselves or ask a more experienced editor or an admin if history merges are involved. I'll look into it and see what I can do.
P.S. I left you a message at Eptalon's talk page. · Tygrrr... 13:42, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
  Done - moved and merged. · Tygrrr... 13:47, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
I like it; bureaucracy-light. Thanks. Cheers, User:Jack Merridew a.k.a. David 13:57, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Redirect change

My mistake about requesting deletion of that page. I just wasn't thinking about it hard enough, so therefore, I definitely should have looked into it a little harder. At least problems like these aren't cropping up as frequently as before :) I'm trying really hard to slow down and take it easy on this site, but I am still moving too fast. I'm really trying hard and nothing is coming out of it.... Cheers, Razorflame 19:39, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Islands in Canada change

I cleaned-up the dup Canada cats; I'll hold off on Category:Islands of British Columbia for now. Category:Islands in Canada has a qd on it now and should go if you good with the re-cat I did. Thanks. User:Jack Merridew a.k.a. David 15:12, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
