Nigerian politicians change

I'm going through the pages without language links and I've noticed that a large number of those pages are Nigerian politicians you've added. I have checked on English Wikipedia and found that none of them have pages there. So I have 2 questions about these people:

  • First, where are you getting your information about these politicians from? I don't think you are making it up, but I am wondering if there are pages on them in any other languages.
  • Second, seeing if an article exists on English Wikipedia is generally a fairly good way to determine if a person, place, or topic is notable. Since they do not have them, are you sure these politicians meet Wikipedia's criteria for notability? (sorry we don't have a version of this in Simple English)

Just to be clear, if they meet the notability guidelines and have good, reliable sources, I think it's fantastic that we have so many articles that English Wikipedia does not have. You may reply here so that the conversation is easy-to-read. Thanks. · Tygartl1·talk· 15:21, 13 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

My criteria for notability is that they are office holders and some are important people during their period in Nigeria. Most of the articles dealt with the Nigerian pre-independence period where printed coverage is minimal but because of lack of higher education and the new movement (1951) to include native Nigerians in political administrative positions the following where fairly prominent personalities during their time.

The Source is a book published by Daily Times of Nigeria (it was then a major or with some conjecture) the most important source/reference for a wide information on important people in Nigeria during the 1950s and 1960s. The Source is

  • Who's who in Nigeria
  • Daily Times of Nigeria Limited
  • Published 1956, Nigerian Printing and

Pub. Co.

A slide down the google page could see fairly notable and authoritative books especially one by Tom G. Forrest who use the source.

Also I once wrote on En wikipedia and I decided to avoid most of the articles on there, so interestingly I chose obscure but I think notable things. I am interested in writing most of the personalities in the book with second sources to verify information about the people or some of them who I am fairly aware of.

Okanlawon

Thank you for your reply. Like I said, I think it's great that you choose to focus your efforts here at Simple English. I think that you have a good method going of verifying the information in that book with a second source. It sounds to me like you've got a lot of good information to share with us here. Keep up the good work! · Tygartl1·talk· 17:30, 13 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Who's Who in Nigeria change

It is likely that you are using "Who's Who in Nigeria" as a reference to many of the articles you have recently created. I want you to make sure you are not "copying" anything directly from "Who's Who in Nigeria". It is a violation of copyright and is forbidden on Wikipedia. If it turns out that a user violates copyright, after being warned about it, it may result in blocking the user from editing wikipedia. Also, articles which are copies of text which is not copyright-free, will be deleted soon. - Huji reply 14:44, 17 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Also, I request you to clarify what "Who's Who in Nigeria" is, exactly. If it is a book, then you should provide the publisher name, year of publish, and the author(s) name(s). If it is a web site, then provide a link to it please. - Huji reply 14:46, 17 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Seems like, you did it in the above, but as you didn't sign your post correctly, I jumped over it. - Huji reply 14:48, 17 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Request for Deletion change

Regarding your comments on WP:RFD, there are things I thought I should tell you:

If I where in your shoes, I wouldn't look into this as a "all or none" situation (that, if one article is going to be deleted, then all should be so). Assuming that I was sure that the local legislators were notable people, according to this giudeline, I would try to convince others why all the articles should be kept. I'm no good in Nigeria history. However, I think if a person is notable enough in the history of a country, there should be references to his/her name here and there.

Maybe these people are not yet notable enough to have a separate article each; but perhaps they still deserve to be listed on one page. You may create a well sources page about legislation in Nigeria and name them there.

That's my point :) Just gather different sources, refer to them, summarize the text, merge the articles, do what you can do, but try to keep the notable information on Wikipedia.

Cheers, - Huji reply 16:53, 17 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

The articles are copyvio, that is a violation of Wikipedia's policy and they merit deletion. I am not a patronizer, I think people should have knowledge of what they consider merits an article. And I think, since many of the articles are copied from a book, they should be deleted.

Okanlawon

You said "since many of the articles are copied from a book, they should be deleted". It is totally correct. If you are sure a special article is copied from a book, let an administrator know about it.
By the way, when you write a message, you can sign it by adding ~~~~ to the end of it.

Vandalism change

Your newest changes are vandalism and this is not acceptable on any Wikipedia. Please stop. If you vandalise more pages, you may be blocked so you cannot edit Wikipedia. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox.

Please stop removing all content from your pages! Even though they have been nominated for deletion, it is considered vandalism and blanking the page doesn't remove them from the Wikipedia servers.

Besides, they might pass deletion and stay as articles here.

Deletion of Malam Adamu, Sarkin Duguri change

Your article Malam Adamu, Sarkin Duguri has been nominated for deletion.Reception123 / Receptie123 (talk) 15:19, 7 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hello, as it is now, we cannot find enough information about the person; can you point towards some list of governors of the province, or some other document that would allow us to make sure the person exist(ed?) and is (was) notable. Birth year 1911 means that the person would be 101 now, if they were still alive. --Eptalon (talk) 23:30, 9 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
