ChenzwBot change

The bot is remarkable, but it has this weakness of reverting back to a previous IP who was also a vandal. (Very small time gap between the two bad edits.) Personally, I check back as far as the last known-to-be sound named editor. Mostly it turns out that the changes were all vandalism, or else trivial differences. If the differences are good, then I come up to the point where a clearly deleterious change took place.

I'm inching towards an idea such as: "If the time gap between one IP and another is less than [say, one minute] revert back to last edit by a rollbacker" [or by a registered user].

There is another kind of edit rot which happens even when editors have the best intention. By changing one phrase an editor may affect a connection with another phrase later on. This latter is not relevant to bots, of course. It's to do with the gestalt effect whereby prose written by several is rarely as coherent as prose written by one (competent) writer. The first problem is usually an indication of the bot mis-classifying the first edit as non-vandalism, and then classifying the subsequent edit (from another IP, usually within the same /24 block) correctly as vandalism. It is not about the bot getting "delayed" before the rollback; rollback requests identify the user to be rolled back, and would have been rejected by the API if it turns out that another user modified the page during the intervening period. I will look into adding more diffs to the bot's training database. Regarding edit rot, unfortunately the bot's primary role (and how the algorithm is configured) is to detect vandalism, not low quality content addition/modification; at this point I think the second issue is still something best left for humans to handle. 27.109.194.184 block change

This user that you recently warned about his Roblox vandalism is continuing to post inappropriate content to many other pages. I believe he needs to be block ASAP before he expands his range. Thank you! --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 22:00, 15 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
