Good articleEdit

Hi, I'm new to Wikipedia, so I have a question about wikipedia. I want to add some good article in my userpage to make my userpage has more content. I saw you have a lot of good article targets in your userpage and I want to know how you did that ? Would you mind telling me how to do that ? -----16chseld 110 (talk) 7:22, 3 April 2016 (UTC)

Question about DYKEdit

There's a DYK on the front page right now that is factually incorrect. Do you know a way to fix that? (I saw you've done some DYK so thought I'd ask you. The DYK is: DYK that Chicago is the largest city in the United States to have had a female mayor since 2012?

"Since" should be "as of" (as in the article): "As of 2012, Chicago was the largest city in the United States to have had a female mayor." seems to think she was the 40th mayor, I wonder why counts differently than the Chicago Public Library. Are there different ways of counting mayors in Chicago? Cheers. SashiRolls (talk) 00:26, 8 December 2017 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) I've updated the main page with a new set of DYKs, which solves the problem of the main page. The 40th is probably a typo and I'm getting that fixed thanks to your reference. Thanks for bringing these both up so they could be fixed! --Tbennert (talk) 16:59, 8 December 2017 (UTC)

I saw you intervened on, but beware... the whole Chicago Mayor template seems to be ordered differently. Now there's conflict on between the text & the infobox, and as a result wiki-text suggests that she was mayor after both Papa Daley and Baby Daley instead of during the brief interregnum period. ^^ SashiRolls (talk) 20:57, 8 December 2017 (UTC)

Re: Deaths in 2017 / April 9 / John Clarke (satirist)Edit

Hi. I wonder if you could help me for a moment. I added the entry for John Clarke into the April 9th register of deaths for 2017, citing the cause of his death as natural causes. You changed the entry there, citing note 44 from ABC News, to "suspected cardiac arrest".

Please note there is nothing in the article I cited as a ref, to indicate anything about suspected cardiac arrest - indeed, there is one line in the article which clearly reads "Clarke died suddenly from natural causes while bushwalking in Victoria last weekend"; this links to this article on the ABC News website. Could you please review your alterations, and look to change this back please? Thanks, DaneGeld (talk) 21:49, 31 December 2017 (UTC)

  • @DaneGeld: Do forgive me I was doing research and found an article that stated his death is a suspected case of cardiac arrest. I went to look for it again but can't find it. I found this USA Today Obit of Clarke citing his death to be suspected heart attack from a dear colleague of Clarke's. Do forgive me for this hiccup. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 22:00, 31 December 2017 (UTC)
    • Of course I forgive you. There's too little of 2017 left to hold a grudge with someone. Have a good 2018. DaneGeld (talk) 22:26, 31 December 2017 (UTC)

Re: Deferred Action for Childhood ArrivalsEdit

He just letting you know I removed the statement saying "Trump's decision, eventually led to a federal government shutdown lasting from January 20, 2018 to January 22, 2018." As yes he did rescind it but it didn't DACA did not cause the government to shutdown, just the people in congress not being to be able to agree on anything. I removed that statement as I kind of found it misleading. Also I recommend when putting something as controversial as that, put some citations/references in their, I thought I would just let you know. --Clarkcj12 (talk) 04:57, 23 January 2018 (UTC)

Also by including the statement it did make it sound kind of biased. I am not trying to bash you, just letting you know some helpful advice. I do appreciate however all of the Politcs articles that you are creating though thank you. --Clarkcj12 (talk) 04:59, 23 January 2018 (UTC)

Melania Trump's surgeryEdit

TDKR, please read sources carefully so that you don't put incorrect information in articles. You said that Mrs. Trump had cyst-removal surgery, but that's not what the source said. In fact, no news source I've seen or heard was specific about why the surgery was needed. I've updated the article. Let me know if you have any questions. --Auntof6 (talk) 04:30, 15 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi, TDKR. Would you please check your recent articles to be sure the language is simple enough? Remember that part of simple language is using simple sentence structure. I simplified some of yours recently, and the new one Czterdziestolatek is not simple. The first and second paragraphs are each one long sentence which should be divided. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 05:27, 12 June 2018 (UTC)

DYK questionEdit

Hi, I was wondering when the next time the DYK will be Updated is. I recently submitted a fact from Coca-Cola, which got successfully accepted. When would it be on the front page? Thank you ⇒ Lucie Person (talk) 23:10, 21 June 2018 (UTC)

  • @Lucie Person:: Hi! I'm so very glad someone is making fresh nominations! You see I would normally update DYK but I was told I couldn't anymore because I was the only one updated my own hooks. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 04:33, 22 June 2018 (UTC)
  • TDKR, you can update the queues if none of your own hooks are involved and someone other than you has approved them. We just want the updating, nominating, and approving done by different people. --Auntof6 (talk) 00:36, 24 June 2018 (UTC)

When you write about politicians, it would be simpler language to say something like "He was the President of Paraguay from 1998 until 1999" instead of "He served as the President of Paraguay from 1998 until 1999". Yes, being in an elected office is service, but our readers are much more likely to know the verb be than the verb serve. Can you please use the simpler wording? --Auntof6 (talk) 09:40, 5 July 2018 (UTC)

Your ArticlesEdit

Hello, well first considering the number of days I have been here and the edits done as compared to you, I may not be the right person to offer this advise. But let me say it motherless.

Thank you for the countless articles you have created. They are pretty much well done and insightful. However, I have noticed that in most of the articles (of deceased people) you have created, you don't include Death subtitles to sentences where the time of one's death occurred. I feel it will be a great deal of help to Wikipedia to put those subtitle requirements as it shows the persons lifetime. I have made such subtitles to the ones I found created without death subtitles.

I hope this will be in order in your next creations.

Regards MyPeople76 (talk) 20:32, 8 August 2018 (UTC)

  • @MyPeople76:: Thank you for the kind words! The reason why I don't place subtitles is because I feel that the information given is too little to be placed under subtitles. For example, I saw in Denholm Elliott's article or Leonard Cohen's article needed a death subtitle because the article itself already has other subtitles and also it has more information on the death subject rather than: [Name] died on January 1, 2019 from pneumonia in London, aged 77. I found in that case like: Masahiko Tsugawa there is little info to create a subtitle. That could just be me, but I'll certainly keep that in mind. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 20:38, 8 August 2018 (UTC)
  • @TDKR Chicago 101: Great. I saw the length of articles. I presume that's why you added stubs to them. Though I feel it helps having that subtitle if an article is atleast 4-5 sentences in between its introduction. Going forward, I will try to improve the ones I find than leaving unattended MyPeople76 (talk) 20:50, 8 August 2018 (UTC)

Once again, thank you for creating 2018 Horizon Air Q400 incident. We need to put more recent news articles on here. I found the perpetrator Richard Russell did not here in the early today and made it. I hope to learn more from you. Best regards MyPeople76 (talk) 01:55, 13 August 2018 (UTC)

Donald TrumpEdit

If you're going to tag this article as needing update, could you indicate somehow (maybe on the talk page) what it is that needs updating? Otherwise, there are so many possibilities that people might not know where to start. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 09:51, 21 August 2018 (UTC)

John McCain editEdit

Just FYI, this edit you made put the article in a maintenance category. I fixed it, but you might want to make sure parameters you add aren't already there. --Auntof6 (talk) 07:14, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

Hey TDKR: Are you praying for those people in North and South Carolina as Hurricane Florence brings herself ashore? I feel really bad for those people in the Southeast as that storm hits them hard. Category:Infobox person using alma materEdit

Hi, TDKR. I noticed that you recently created this category, and categorized it into Category:Deprecated parameters. However, the alma_mater parameter is not deprecated. There are parameters that are not deprecated that are tracked via categories like this. (Don't ask me why they're tracked -- I have no idea!) When creating this kind of category, please make sure the parameter is actually deprecated before putting its category in the deprecated parameter category. Thanks! --Auntof6 (talk) 09:13, 15 September 2018 (UTC)

Template:Annual readershipEdit

I noticed that you added this template to a number of talk pages. Is this something you plan to put on a lot of talk pages, or that you think we should all be adding? If so, maybe you could discuss so that people know if it's expected. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 00:32, 20 September 2018 (UTC)

  • @Auntof6: Yes I the purpose of the readership is to have almost all article talk page to have them so we can track the viewership and trends of the article. I grew to admire the usage it had on the English and was curious to apply it here. I will personally begin the long process of adding it to all talk pages that have been created or should be created. It would be great for other users to do the same because at the English Wikipedia, almost all article talk pages have them. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 03:36, 20 September 2018 (UTC)
    • Then, for now, please stop adding these and get consensus that this is something we want here. Keep in mind that it creates a new maintenance burden for everyone, not just you. --Auntof6 (talk) 04:34, 20 September 2018 (UTC)
      • @Auntof6: I apologize and I hope you or the community know that I added those templates here because I just wanted to improve the community. I had good heart in doing this, and as reflected in my 15,000 articles I only want to improve the community. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 05:32, 20 September 2018 (UTC)
        • Yes, I think you do some good work here. I'm not saying we shouldn't use this template, just that if it's going to become standard we should discuss it to make sure everyone is on the same page. --Auntof6 (talk) 05:46, 20 September 2018 (UTC)
  • I was just about to come here and say the same thing, we don't tag talk pages of articles here like they do on en. So creating talk pages just to put a template like this on would be against prior consensus. I don't really have an issue with it being on already created talk pages, but that is a slippery slope usually. -DJSasso (talk) 10:59, 20 September 2018 (UTC)

About Deaths in 2018Edit

Hello, The two people are dead and you wait the next day ?! Remove the portrait of Aznavour ?! What if you put pictures the next day? All is too big, then?

Maybe when putting this code [[File:Charles Aznavour cropped.jpg|thumb|right|65px|{{center|[[Charles Aznavour]]<br>1924 – 2018}}]]

Charles Aznavour
1924 – 2018

until tomorrow we will not have the impression of vandalism. The next day you may be doing otherwise or you will separate the spacing of the text. No ?

Best regards. --Eihel (talk) 01:12, 2 October 2018 (UTC)

  • If you see the other Deaths in <insert January-September month> 2018 you see that I always put images when there is sufficient entries so the format perfectly fits. Don't worry Mr. Aznavour will be added. Believe me. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 01:14, 2 October 2018 (UTC)

Hi, TDKR. I noticed that you recently created this template. There are some issues with it:

  • The output on the page is abbreviations that won't make sense to our readers. Remember that people who don't know English well also won't know what abbreviations of English words mean.
  • It assigns categories with names that aren't meaningful (for example, Category:M w and Category:M ww).

One minor thing: when you bring a template here from enwiki, please also bring its doc page.

Because of these issues, I have removed the template from the two pages that were using it. Can you suggest text that would be meaningful when displayed on a page, and category names that would be meaningful? --Auntof6 (talk) 07:29, 14 October 2018 (UTC)

Improper moveEdit

You made an improper move by recreating the article and a redirect instead of simply using the page move button. This has the effect of obscuring the article GFDL history of previous editors. Someone who knows what they are doing will now have to clean up behind you. Til Eulenspiegel (talk) 13:48, 28 October 2018 (UTC)

Please pay attention to what I just said. Re-read it again if you have to . Simply put I was referring to your improper method of recreating the article and a redirect, instead of simply using the page move button. This is indeed improper, as it split the previous contributors between two different GFDLs that have to be merged by an admin now . I am aware that the hyphen is OK. Til Eulenspiegel (talk)
@Til Eulenspiegel: Once again please be respectful not rude. You see I tried doing so but it did not work. This happened: I tried to move Sahlework Zewde to Sahle-Work Zewde, but since the article with the name "Sahle-Work Zewde" was created it would not let me move the information from the page Sahlework Zewde to Sahle-Work Zewde because "an article with that name has already been created". Frustratingly tedious it is. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 17:37, 28 October 2018 (UTC)
Yes, Wikipedia is frustrating sometimes. Usually if the only thing there is a redirect creation it allows anyone to delete it, but maybe not Til Eulenspiegel (talk) 17:45, 28 October 2018 (UTC)
TDKR, If you have this kind of issue again, please contact an admin to do the move for you. Admins can do such moves even when a page already exists at the desired new name. That is much easier than having to do the merge afterward. --Auntof6 (talk) 18:27, 28 October 2018 (UTC)

RfD nomination of Julian Castro 2020 presidential campaignEdit

An editor has requested deletion of Julian Castro 2020 presidential campaign, an article you created. We appreciate your changes, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Please comment on the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2019/Julian Castro 2020 presidential campaign and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also change the article during the discussion to address the nominator's concerns. But you should not remove the requests for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you very much. I'v been thinking this for a while but how are you not an admin? You have 87,000 edits and are a value to this Wikipedia. Do you just not want adminship? IWI (chat) 23:08, 13 January 2019 (UTC)

  • @ImprovedWikiImprovment: I have thought about it for a while while reflecting on the amount of articles I have created and the edits I have made. Sometimes I feel I am nowhere near to be worthy to be an admin. Though someday I would like to be an admin here after nearly serving this Wiki for seven years. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 23:12, 13 January 2019 (UTC)
You're more than worthy IMO. The only thing that could hold you back is the political infoboxes, although I doubt this would have an effect. I can't foresee a basis for oppose. IWI (chat) 23:14, 13 January 2019 (UTC)
@ImprovedWikiImprovment: I am very politically active and proud of it, but also a dedicated Simple Wiki User. These things will increase your chances hugely since they were the only things holding you back. Regards, IWI (chat) 16:07, 21 January 2019 (UTC)

I just realised that you probably live in Chicago by your name. If so, how did you deal with that? I thought 0°C (32°F) was cold over here in the UK. Anyways, stay safe. IWI (chat) 08:42, 1 February 2019 (UTC)

  • @ImprovedWikiImprovment: - It's pretty intense, but we're used to it. 32°F over here is grilling season for us! What does get annoying is that your hands get numb like every four minutes, but once again we're used to it. The wind chills are intense! Our houses are pretty insulated and heated so we could deal the cold. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 08:45, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
On the rare occasion we do get a little bit of snow (like an inch), motorways come to a standstill and schools close (exactly what’s happening today). It’s safe to say we couldn’t deal with it. There’s no way trains would be running, like they were in Chicago. Anyway, looks like it’s warming up a little over there, so should be over. IWI (chat) 09:12, 1 February 2019 (UTC)

Hey TDKR, how are ya? As I have an extremely limited knowledge Spanish speaking skills, would you be able to help me confirm this source about Alan García's apparent death? Thanks, —Jonny Nixon (talk) 14:54, 17 April 2019 (UTC)

No worries, death confirmed by numerous sources including NYT, BBC, AP, etc. —Jonny Nixon (talk) 16:10, 17 April 2019 (UTC)
  • @Jonny Nixon:: Hey Jonny it's great to see you back! I'm good, how are you? Sorry for the late response I was at classes! --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 16:23, 17 April 2019 (UTC)
I'm very well thanks, don't apologise its no problem at all. Thanks, —Jonny Nixon (talk) 21:19, 17 April 2019 (UTC)

Death articlesEdit

Every link on those pages were notable, that is the requirement to get on the page on which is where the page was imported from. The Death/Birth articles are very good examples of where there should be red links because it shows us the notable articles we are missing and should be creating. -DJSasso (talk) 11:09, 8 May 2019 (UTC)

  • Thank you for helping me expand the Deaths in 2016 articles! Eventually I'll create all red linked articles from July 2016 to December 2016 however some articles may be notable at English, but some won't be here (ex: article only have one line, one reference, may be redirected, etc.). I've been doing it like that since Deaths in 2015 I believe with help from Mr. Jonny Nixon! Trust me all your hardwork will be worth it once Deaths in 2016 is finally completed like the other death pages. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 11:13, 8 May 2019 (UTC)

2020 United States presidential electionEdit

Can you please take a little more care with the references on this page? You are consistently causing it to be in Category:Pages with reference errors. Thanks Nunabas (talk) 15:07, 16 May 2019 (UTC)

Lots of new pages, lots of hard wordsEdit

Hi, TDKR Chicago 101. I think it's great that you're adding so many new pages here! But the words you use are not simple. The English in them is like the regular English Wikipedia, and that's not so good. I see I'm not the first one to say this to you. Auntof6 said it here and here.

You are making very many new pages, and you're making them so fast. If I went after you and tried to make every one simple, I could not keep up. You have been here some time, and I think you know that there is no deadline. Would you please slow down, and use simple English? Thank you. BlackcurrantTea (talk) 10:30, 4 July 2019 (UTC)

Happy birthday!Edit

Today of all days I decided to visit your Userpage for the first time. I see you have been here for seven years! Thanks for all the work you do here. Ottawahitech (talk) 02:49, 23 July 2019 (UTC)

Michael E. KraussEdit

Just a couple of notes:

  • The expression is "shy of", not "shy from"
  • That expression isn't simple anyway, so I changed it to "before"

Wikipedia Asian Month 2019 potential organizers for Simple English WikipediaEdit

Nonsimple languageEdit

Hi, TDKR. I noticed that you added text to some articles about actors saying that they are "set to play" certain roles. That phrasing is not simple. I suggest saying something like "going to play" instead. I've seen many examples (not necessarily in your changes) of us using language that is commonly seen in news media but which is either complex or jargon, and it would be good to avoid that. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 06:37, 15 November 2019 (UTC)

Accidental rollbackEdit

Sorry if you saw me rollback one of your edits! I was logged in on mobile and misclicked a small link. Brantmeierz (talk) 21:37, 22 January 2020 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) @Brantmeierz: I used to make the same mistake! There's now an option in your preferences that will have you confirm that you want to do a rollback. It's on the appearance tab in the advanced options section, labeled "Show a confirmation prompt when clicking on a rollback link". HTH! --Auntof6 (talk) 22:14, 22 January 2020 (UTC)
@Auntof6: Thank you for that tip! I was unaware of that option, but will definitely keep it on from now on (and probably forgo editing from my phone anyway too - that tiny interface is hard to work with). Brantmeierz (talk) 22:30, 22 January 2020 (UTC)

Saint Paul categoriesEdit

I redirected the two categories instead of deleting them. Also, when you change the name of a category by any means other than a move, please remember to change Wikidata as well. When you rename a category via a move, the Wikidata change is taken care of. I took care of it for these two. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 22:24, 22 January 2020 (UTC)

I know you are excited that DYK is maybe going to get rolling a bit more but remember "Editors may only nominate up to four hooks at any one time. How can I participate in assisting the dyks and making some? --Thegooduser Let's Talk! :) 🍁 04:18, 28 February 2020 (UTC)

  • @Thegooduser:: Awesome great to have more users interested! The instructions should be on the nomination page but I'll give you a quick rundown. Let's just say you want to nominate this hook: "... that New York City is the largest city in the United States?" First, you make sure this fact is stated on the page, so in this case you would want to make sure this statement is in New York City's page. Next, make sure that statement is cited with a reliable source: CNN, NYT, National Geo, a government website, etc.. Next make sure the article overall is in good shape, like it's not a stub article, if so go ahead and expand the bad boy!. Make sure the article is not complex for our simple english wiki viewers. Once the article is all nice and ready, then you would add the New York City fact on the under the nominations header and then await for feedback from other users. Thanks again for showing interest! --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 04:50, 28 February 2020 (UTC)

RfA closed as unsuccessful..Edit

Hello TDKR Chicago 101, I just closed your RfA. With 6 of 11 (or 7 of 12) votes in support, we only get to 60%, which is still too far away from the required 75% that I could have closed this as "successful". You are a great editotr, and this Wikipedia needs you. If you try taking part in community processes a little more (e.g. the "Good"/"Very Good article" processs, whivh has died down), I am sure that you'll make a great admin. I didn't vote, but I still think that you'd make a great admin. So, do me a favor, don't take what people said personally (RfAs are always about washing dirty laundry), and try again, when you have addressed the issues, that people pointed out. All the best--Eptalon (talk) 17:04, 20 April 2020 (UTC)

  • @Mommmy: Thank you mate for the kind words. All is well and I made a speedy recovery. It does tire you out. I've been coughing a lot but at the moment I thought it was the flu or my seasonal bronchitis. After losing my appetite and frequently experiencing shortness of breath I had to go to my healthcare provider. It was there that they said I looked like a viral lung infection and sent me to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for x-rays. It was there that they believed I had it and sent me to get tested, but I was aware of the situation that I even had my mask on before knowing I had COVID. A proposal for a group project of article importsEdit

Considering that both of us clearly have an interest in American government and politics, there has been a group of articles that really need to be created for use: all of the House and Senate committee and subcommittees. They are not easy articles to simplify, I know, however, I know you aren't the type of person to back down from a challenge. It would be a fantastic addition to the article you're trying to promote, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and it would be necessary to have them in there if you would want to make it a featured article.

I don't trust my own skills enough to single-handedly take on the task of thoroughly explaining even half of what some of the committees do, and the *shudders* necessary related articles needed to ensure the main articles make sense. I think you are better at truly simplifying than I am, but I can certainly do the early heavy lifting and the later revising/explaining. Realistically, I would see it as the type of simplifying that would be better suited for native speakers that just don't understand it. Would you be interested in lending your support? ~Junedude433talk 03:37, 28 April 2020 (UTC) "*@Junedude433: Sounds interesting, I'm in. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 05:58, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

Christian MbuluEdit

Hello TDKR. Not sure if you were aware but there was a fairly large discussion on this article's talk page about the lead image's caption. A user tried to add a caption and I reverted it. Every other editor disagreed with me so consensus is to leave it. IWI (chat) 05:21, 28 May 2020 (UTC)

  • @ImprovedWikiImprovment: I was just reading discussion after a hectic day here in Chicago. I agree with your statement about captions being redundant in some cases. Sometimes WikiCommons does not accurately display the date of a photograph so henceforth I avoid adding captions. In some cases I add captions for example when a photograph was take a month before the subject's passing to demonstrate an updated pic. However examples like official portraits (i.e Ronald Reagan like you brought up) are kind of self explanatory henceforth caption not needed. Nonetheless I respect the consensus of the page. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 05:25, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
Yes so do I, of course. I just didn't want you to inadvertently remove the caption. There's a tendency for people to caption everything on both en and simple and often they're not needed. IWI (chat) 05:27, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
Exactly my point. Oh well, however that is why I love talk pages and Wikipedia. Instead of having an edit war people can simply talk it out and make fair points without hostility. After all anyone can edit! --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 05:29, 28 May 2020 (UTC)

Oh by the way, I've added myself to the list of DYK editors. I'm going to start adding to it. I've just improved an article to add one. IWI (chat) 14:03, 10 June 2020 (UTC)

Yeah it seems to not get much interest so thought it might be worth it. IWI (chat) 14:06, 10 June 2020 (UTC)

adolf eichmannEdit

is this article too short to be a dyk? --Thegooduser Let's Talk! :) 🍁 17:11, 10 June 2020 (UTC)

  • @Thegooduser:: Nope, the article has a little over 1,300 characters way over the 800 requirement. You can use this tool -> Character count if you want to see if an article meets the character requirement. I can't wait to see what DYK hook you'll create with this article! --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 23:38, 10 June 2020 (UTC)

I removed the frame for the image in this article, it's pretty obvious what it is here, do you think it's okay? --Thegooduser Let's Talk! :) 🍁 01:02, 14 June 2020 (UTC)

nevermind, it caused too many problems to the page, i have put frame back --Thegooduser Let's Talk! :) 🍁 16:08, 16 June 2020 (UTC)

Just noticed this redirect. Maybe worth deleting as an unusual typo? --Yottie =talk= 21:27, 15 June 2020 (UTC)

Vera LynnEdit

It seems another one one your death list has passed away, Dame Vera Lynn. RIP. IWI (chat) 15:02, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

I know, very sad. But she lived a long life. I don't think I'll live to 103. IWI (chat) 17:36, 18 June 2020 (UTC)
Exactly. She lived a great long life. If I reach to 103 I hope Simple English is running to keep me company! :) --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 00:14, 19 June 2020 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) I hope I reach 103 or longer lol (maybe 205) --Thegooduser Let's Talk! :) 🍁 00:20, 19 June 2020 (UTC)

Could you imagine living that long! I just survived food poisoning. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 00:23, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
I'm too clumsy to live that long haha. IWI (chat) 00:32, 19 June 2020 (UTC)

I'd spend all the time here on Wikipedia or learning another language (because I've got no friends lol) --Thegooduser Let's Talk! :) 🍁 00:33, 19 June 2020 (UTC)

  • Same because of quarantine. I'm still on furlough from my job. I'll probably return in mid-July to early August. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 00:35, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
What do you do for work? (If you are okay with me asking) --Thegooduser Let's Talk! :) 🍁 00:37, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
I've spent the quarantine learning Russian and editing Wikipedia. IWI (chat) 00:38, 19 June 2020 (UTC)

I also just leanred that Vermont also speaks Russian! I am trying to learn Japanese --Thegooduser Let's Talk! :) 🍁 00:39, 19 June 2020 (UTC)

@Thegooduser: I worked at some restaurant in downtown Chicago part-time. The only good that came from this pandemic was the virtual college classes (thanks DePaul). My wife and I literally got the best sleep since we started college. @ImprovedWikiImprovment: Must be nice, I'm trying to fix my French. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 00:41, 19 June 2020 (UTC)

For me I end up editing Wikipedia during school online! --Thegooduser Let's Talk! :) 🍁 00:42, 19 June 2020 (UTC)

  • Same during the pre-COVID era. I would edit the Wiki during my history/french classes. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 00:46, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
and when the teacher asks you a question, how do you respond? lol --Thegooduser Let's Talk! :) 🍁 00:47, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
You should focus at school lol. IWI (chat) 00:48, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
I do focus lol. Seeing that I'm majoring in Political Science most of my classes are based in areas of politics which I'm familiar with so if they call on me I just give my political opinions and then they're like "mhmmm yes well said!". The readings though are amazing! Truly recommend On Liberty by John Stuart Mill. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 00:54, 19 June 2020 (UTC)

Death listEdit

A long time ago I asked you to remove something similar to the "death list" you currently have on your user page, and you removed it. I am now asking you again. The guideline on user pages says "Wikipedia provides user pages for easier communication between people in its project to build an encyclopedia." The death list does not fit that. Also, as I pointed out last time, we have a duty to be respectful of the people we have articles about. Indicating you think they are likely to die soon is not respectful. Please delete the death list and do not keep anything of the sort on Wikipedia. --Auntof6 (talk) 05:17, 19 June 2020 (UTC)

@Auntof6: This is not policy. There's no obligation for him to remove it, right? IWI (chat) 14:49, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
Yeah I don't think policy requires the removal of this. While it might not be in good taste, considering how much they maintain the death pages on the wiki, this is arguably related to work they do on this wiki. -Djsasso (talk) 14:53, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
It's a sort of black comedy related to his work on Wikipedia, or at least that's how I interpret it. IWI (chat) 14:57, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
That would also not be in keeping with what should be on a user page. --Auntof6 (talk) 17:14, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
It's not policy and I was asking, not giving a directive. If he wants to keep something that's disrespectful, in bad taste, and possibly hurtful, that's up to him. --Auntof6 (talk) 17:14, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
@Auntof6: When an administrator "asks" you to do something, most people interpret it as a command. I'm not saying that I agree or disagree with you, I'm just clarifying that there is no policy that means he must remove it. IWI (chat) 17:45, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
@Auntof6:, @ImprovedWikiImprovment:, @Djsasso:: The list is per what Djsasso said, seeing that my work is related to Deaths in 2020 and so on. If there was a policy on not having this kind of material on one's user page then of course I wouldn't have had it in the first place. And the list is also what IWI said. A note also, the list is not like a "I hope these people die" sort of thing (god no that's vile and horrid). I'll put the list in hidden brackets so that while it remains on my page it will not be visible. Thanks Auntof6 for the Big Brother check. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 17:53, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
Reacting to IWI's comment, I had some problems on the English Wikipedia when an admin told me "I advise you to" and I took the word at face value—I read both "asking" and "advice" as the person being free to say no. In a project where people come from many different language backgrounds, being direct is usually the best choice. In her third post down in this thread, Auntof6 clearly, properly, and rightly established that her request is a real request. I like it when people have the guts to say something is their opinion.
Remember, Auntof6, you can always propose a new policy if you think it's necessary. Darkfrog24 (talk) 18:09, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
Honestly, I don't even think this was a serious violation of the current guideline (which is only a guideline anyway). IWI (chat) 18:23, 19 June 2020 (UTC)

Small noteEdit

I think the word "population" should be linked as it isn't simple. Do you agree? IWI (chat) 08:13, 26 June 2020 (UTC)

  • Mhmmm, I never really thought about it. A lot of articles have the word population without it being linked. Seeing that a sentence using the word would be like this: Gotham City has a population of 3,000 people or The population was 3,000 according to the 2010 census, I think that would make it clear. I'll certainly keep it in mind though and start linking it. Good catch! --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 08:16, 26 June 2020 (UTC)
I don't know, maybe I'm wrong, it just seems complex to me. IWI (chat) 08:28, 26 June 2020 (UTC)
It doesn't hurt to link it anyway. I'll start doing it for now on. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 08:29, 26 June 2020 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) For what it's worth, I think it's complex, and I have linked it in articles before. I've also changed wording to say, for example, "In 2020, 100,000 people lived there" or "At the 2010 census, 250,000 people lived there." Note that you would not say something like "100,000 people lived there in 2020" because it's not correct English to start a sentence with digits. --Auntof6 (talk) 08:55, 26 June 2020 (UTC)

@Auntof6: Would you recommend rewording it per your suggestion or linking the word population? --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 08:56, 26 June 2020 (UTC)
Well, I've done both, but I generally prefer using simpler words even if there's a link to the more complex one. So I guess I have a slight preference for rewording per my suggestion. --Auntof6 (talk) 09:14, 26 June 2020 (UTC)

Deaths in 2020Edit

Please be warned that you have now made two reverts on Deaths in 2020. The three-revert rule means that you can only do three reverts (except obvious vandalism) per page per day. I know the user was being disruptive, but it wasn't vandalism, so an admin might block you if you revert again. I'm only telling you this so you avoid the mistake I made. :) thanks, IWI (chat) 19:42, 27 June 2020 (UTC)

@ImprovedWikiImprovment: Intentionally adding wrong information is considered a type of vandalism. Of course, this can be accidental, which is why warnings exist, but is not a "content dispute" like your case was Naleksuh (talk) 19:44, 27 June 2020 (UTC)
@ImprovedWikiImprovment: The user also kept on removing the same entries from the page constantly so I consider it vandalism seeing its just continuous pointless removing of content. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 19:45, 27 June 2020 (UTC)
(change conflict) @Naleksuh: Yes I was about to say on second evaluation, it seems the information was bogus, which I didn't first notice. IWI (chat) 19:46, 27 June 2020 (UTC)
On an unrelated note, does an admin have to move the full DYK queue or can I do it now? A queue is full and ready to update. IWI (chat) 20:25, 27 June 2020 (UTC)
Back in the day I used to do it and I wasn't an admin. Not sure if it still applies today. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 20:26, 27 June 2020 (UTC)
Well the template is unprotected so WP:BOLD. We are well past the update date. IWI (chat) 20:28, 27 June 2020 (UTC)
Question: the current queue is Q3, but the only full one is Q5. Do we have to use Q3 or can a later one be promoted? IWI (chat) 20:48, 27 June 2020 (UTC)
@ImprovedWikiImprovment: I was aware of that which I found odd but at the same time its good to spread out hooks to other queues. I know that there are some hooks at DYK that have the green light to be moved to some queues so maybe transferring them to some queues would be a good idea. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 02:37, 29 June 2020 (UTC)
Well I guess Chenzw thought having two American politics hooks in one queue wasn't a good idea. I've added your Tom Hanks hook to Q3. Only one more hook needed for that queue now. IWI (chat) 14:27, 30 June 2020 (UTC)

Ha haEdit

I was spiffing up my user page (by blatantly copying code off yours) and I couldn't figure out why the article count did not read my own more modest number. Then I realized that "166,788" referred to the total number of articles on Simple and not articles drafted by you personally. I thought you might think that was funny. Darkfrog24 (talk) 01:43, 6 July 2020 (UTC)

  • OMG I would not be human if I drafted 166,788 articles! --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 06:08, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
Or with very short articles. Even at fifty a day it would take about nine years.
I noticed something else. Your articles still show up in Special:NewPages even though you're a patroller. Am I missing something about that? Darkfrog24 (talk) 12:26, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) Patrollers pages still show up, but they show up already marked patrolled. -Djsasso (talk) 13:54, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
Where exactly is this mark? I couldn't see any difference. Or is it not visible to most people? I remember Danny mentioning he'd marked non-patrolled articles for deletion where appropriate and thought I'd try my hand at it. Darkfrog24 (talk) 21:16, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
I can't remember if non-patrollers can see or not. For admins/patrollers each line in the log is highlighted another colour if it has not been patrolled. It would make sense that non-patrollers can't see that if they can't do anything about it. -Djsasso (talk) 21:18, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
Yeah, I checked the page history and statistics of one of TKDR C's recent articles. Patrol status is not visible from Froggietown. Nice to know I don't have patrolmark blindness. Darkfrog24 (talk) 21:21, 6 July 2020 (UTC)

Infobox issuesEdit

When copying infoboxes from the English Wikipedia, please be more careful I just had to fix Tombstone, Arizona because it used a file that doesn't exist. Big Reference Weekend 2020Edit

  • Hello TDKR, I hope you are well. I just wanted to bring your attention to the Big Reference Weekend 2020 happening next weekend in case you hadn't seen it. We will be going through unreferenced articles using the categories and referencing as many of them as possible. If you are interested and have the time, you would be a great help! I'd love to see you there and we can help make this Wikipedia more verifiable. Thanks, IWI (chat) 12:24, 12 July 2020 (UTC)

Papa John's changed to Papa John's PizzaEdit

The page Papa John's was changed into Papa John's Pizza. For what reason, TDKR? Angela Kate Maureen 02:10, 2 August 2020 (UTC)

@Tropical Storm Angela: Our titles always ask the English Wikipedia's unless ours is thought to be more Simple English. You might ask English Wikipedia why the page is under that name. However I would say because that's the actual name of the business and Papa John's is a shortening. Naleksuh (talk) 02:13, 2 August 2020 (UTC)

RfD nomination of Resurreccion BorraEdit

An editor has requested deletion of Resurreccion Borra, an article you created. We appreciate your changes, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Please comment on the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2020/Resurreccion Borra and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also change the article during the discussion to address the nominator's concerns. But you should not remove the requests for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you very much. Eptalon (talk) 10:38, 2 August 2020 (UTC)

Noticed a school IP has been editing mayors and their office # details. I thought it's for their school project or something, so I always try to AGF. I tried to verify one edit for Ron Nirenberg, but I couldn't find any verification for the number they added. They also added yet another one [2]. As mayors may be less covered by media, and I mainly rely on their bios, are you aware of any other ways to verify these additions? Many thanks for your insight. --Infogapp1 (talk) 17:38, 19 August 2020 (UTC)

  • @Infogapp1:: I was not aware about these edits. As about the # next to their office (i.e. 5th Mayor of Chicago) on their infoboxes is not seen that often in English Wiki and I usually follow their guidelines. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 00:32, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
@TDKR Chicago 101: Yeah, that's what I thought. My instinct was to revert the edit and give them a warning since I couldn't see any third party mentioning these numbers. But I also wanted to make sure I'm not just doing it because I wasn't aware of other ways to find such information. And I thought who would be a better source than the person who created the article itself. Thanks for confirming :) --Infogapp1 (talk) 01:20, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
Of course! Let's see how that goes out for now. Keep a heads up on an unregistered user that keeps editing Governor of Virginia and related articles. They're making minor edits but tons of them and then they add up. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 01:20, 20 August 2020 (UTC)

US elections, potential Vice presidents....Edit

Helllo TDKR Chicago101,

As you konw, the two presidential candidates each nominated a vice president. To my knowledge these are Mike Pence and Kamala Harris. As far as I know, the election is in 2-3 weeks. I think we should not give a stage to those who want to be political, and who possibly add wrong information, or deface the pages in other ways. Being in Europe (and not an US Citizen), I am too far away, and I don't know the exact details about the lives of these people. Since you seem to be politically interested, could you quickly read through both of the articles, and make sure that there's no blatantly wrong information we possibly overlooked? - Both articles are protected for a month, only autoconfirmed users can edit them.

Thank you --Eptalon (talk) 10:58, 19 October 2020 (UTC)

  • @Eptalon: Good idea. I'll give them a quick and thorough read. Is it possible to also protect Joe Biden's page seeing that he is the Democratic nominee and might be elected president as well? --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 16:34, 19 October 2020 (UTC)
Yes of course; also protected the page. There's a chance we are looking at the next president... --Eptalon (talk) 16:42, 19 October 2020 (UTC)
  • Great work as usual. I'll give Harris, Pence and the 2020 election article a quick read to make sure all is good. Also protecting the 2020 United States presidential election not a bad idea since it might be awhile until the results are finalized I'm sure some controversial content might be added to the article until the winner is announced which looks like might not happen on election night. Maybe a protection until late November to December 1? --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 16:48, 19 October 2020 (UTC)
Ok, PAges Protected (all 'semi-protected/autoconfirmed', for at least a month: Joe Biden, Donald Trump, Mike Pence, Kamala Harris; 2020 US presidential election; Donald Trump 2020 presidential campaign, Joe Biden 2020 presidential campaign, Kamala Harris 2020 presidential campaign; There doesn't seem to be a page Mike Pence 2020 presidential campaign. I don't think the other .... 2020 presidential campaign pages need protection, they are unlikely targets.--Eptalon (talk) 20:55, 19 October 2020 (UTC)

I accidentally reverted your edit. Sorry for the mistake.--Saroj Uprety (talk) 06:30, 27 October 2020 (UTC)

April Fools DYKEdit

Do we do April Fools Hooks here like on EN Wikipedia? --つがる Let's Talk! :) 🍁 03:08, 29 November 2020 (UTC)

I don't remember doing them. I think they could confuse our readers whose English is not good. --Auntof6 (talk) 04:18, 29 November 2020 (UTC)
@つがる: & @Auntof6: I do think it would be a creative and funny way of doing it, our DYK hooks aren't usually updated constantly so an April Fools hook might go well into June. Also Auntof6 brings up a good point as it may cause confusion let alone if the hooks remain on the main page way after April Fools. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 08:35, 29 November 2020 (UTC)
What if we switch it back to a normal queue right away when it's done and put a tag that says wikt:joke next to the DYKs? --つがる Let's Talk! :) 🍁 20:54, 29 November 2020 (UTC)
The hooks would cause confusion no matter how long they're left. Some of our readers probably come from countries that do not have April Fool's Day. My feeling is that things here should be for the users, and this seems like something more for the editors (yes, I know there's overlap, but I think you get my point). --Auntof6 (talk) 01:41, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
